Tour Dos Ojos Cenote: Discover Both Eyes, the Bat Cave & More!

Get ready for an unforgettable experience with our private tour of Dos Ojos cenote—a magical place near Tulum, famous for its crystal-clear waters and incredible underground world. This snorkeling tour lets you explore both "eyes" of the cenote, swim through the largest underground river system in Mexico, and enjoy a peaceful jungle lunch away from the crowds.

Dos Ojos isn’t just popular among travelers—it’s also a Hollywood favorite! This cenote has been featured in the IMAX film “Journey Into Amazing Caves”, the movie “The Cave”, and the BBC’s Planet Earth series. When you snorkel here, you're entering a world so unique it has captured the imagination of filmmakers and scientists alike.

Explore Both Eyes of the Dos Ojos Cenote

The name “Dos Ojos” means “two eyes” in Spanish, referring to the two circular sinkholes visible from above. Each eye offers a unique snorkeling experience. On our tour, you'll visit both:

The first eye is filled with natural light and shallow areas, perfect for beginners and children. You'll admire dramatic limestone formations and see the light rays dance underwater. The second eye is darker, more mysterious, and includes areas with stunning stalactites and stalagmites. This part of the cenote is deeper and more dramatic, ideal for snorkelers looking for a more immersive cave experience.

Visit the Hidden Bat Cave

One of the most exciting highlights of this Dos Ojos cenote tour is the Bat Cave. This hidden chamber is only accessible with a certified guide and reached by a short swim through narrow passages filled with ancient stalactites. Inside, you'll find a large dome where bats rest during the day, hanging quietly from the cave ceiling. However, please note that during the rainy season, the water level in the cenote may rise significantly. This can make the passage to the Bat Cave inaccessible or unsafe to cross.

Enjoy a Traditional Mexican Lunch

After your underwater journey, we’ll take you to a family-run restaurant nestled in the jungle. A delicious Mexican lunch will be served, freshly prepared with local ingredients and traditional recipes. It’s the perfect moment to relax, chat with your guide, and relive the best parts of your Dos Ojos adventure surrounded by nature.

Top-Quality Snorkeling Gear for Adults and Kids

We provide everything you need for an easy and enjoyable snorkeling session. You'll receive high-quality masks, snorkels, wetsuits, life vests, and waterproof flashlights. For families, we also offer children’s gear, including small wetsuits, kid-sized life vests, and small snorkel-masks. This makes the tour safe and fun for children as young as 4 or 5 years old, as long as they are comfortable in the water and know how to swim.

An amazing experience from start to finish. Our tour guide Alex, was so knowledgeable and kind. The cenotes are a must, it was an other worldly experience. 10/10 recommend.

  2. Michael

After a lot of research we booked this private tour and it was a great choice. Omar picked us up and Alex was our guide. Alex has so much knowledge of the cenotes and history of everything Tulum, from the Mayan’s and more. We got very lucky that we were the only ones at the dos ojos cenote that day. Alex prepped us well and again was a blast to explore and learn with. The lunch was great as well. Alex spoke great English which helped us as we have minimal Spanish speaking experience. Overall amazing experience!

  3. Sam

Alex was our awesome tour guide. Victor and Carlos were our awesome drivers.

  4. Ashley

Alex was our tour guide and Victor and Carlos was out drivers — everyone was amazing! Definitely recommend the Dos Ojos cenote experience

  5. Anna

This was awesome! We had a group of 13 girls for a bachelorette party and the Dos Ojos Cenote Tour with Lunch was perfect for us! The private tour is what to do. Alex was our tour guide and was so friendly and great! Victor and Alex were our drivers and kept everything safe in the vans while we enjoyed the Cenotes. 10/10

  6. Rebecca

We had an amazing day with our driver Carlos and tour guide Alex G visiting Dos Ojos! The cenotes are so beautiful, it’s hard the believe that the water is that clear. Alex was really knowledgeable about the cenotes and the Mayan Communities and culture, and did a wonderful job showing us around and taking care of us. The Mayan lunch was delicious as well! I would highly encourage anyone going Cancun to make a private to check out the cenotes and ask for Alex as your guide.

  7. Holly

My party took this tour with Carlos & Alex G. We had a great time. They went above and beyond what we had expected. The cenotes were amazing, pictures don’t even do them justice. Our resort was north of Cancun and not included in the resort list on the website. I reached out to Absolute Adventure and for an additional transportation fee (understandably) they accommodated us. I highly recommend this tour with Carlos & Alex.

  8. Joel

Had a wonderful time in the cenotes. Had to put up with clouds of mosquitoes in between but the wetsuits helped with that. The water is cool and unbelievably clear. Getting to the bat cave was an experience in itself. The ride was short to Dos Ojos from Playa Akaluma. The park access road is bumpy so the driver took it very slowly. Floating along in the current made it easy to explore the caves and the stalactites and stalagmites are amazing.

  9. Jill

    Great Dos Ojos Experience!
Loved the Dos Ojos cenote tour! Arturo was excellent and a great tour guide! Highly recommend! Wouldn’t have had the first clue how to navigate the different cenotes without him. Great lunch afterward also. Well worth the $.

  10. Bunchofhicks

Amazing tour! Everything was set up through the app. We were picked up right at our main lobby and went straight to the cenote. Juan took care of tickets and our equipment. The cenote is stunning. We hopped in and swam around for a while, then Juan guided us through the tighter areas and into the bat cave!! He was always willing to wait and take pictures with our phone and/or GoPro. The views under the water were breathtaking! Since this is a private tour we had plenty of time to explore and just enjoy the cenote. Lunch after was very good! Our driver did a great job and we all felt safe on the entire trip! This was a perfect half day getaway for our group!

  11. Leet

Took my bachelorette crew on this tour while visiting and had the absolute best experience from start to finish.
Our guide Arturo made the entire experience for us and was the entire vibe. He had the best attitude and was so kind and patient with 9 of us girls. We felt incredibly safe and taken care of and he also had the jokes to top it all off.
The cenote itself was also worth the trip and was one of the most memorable and beautiful natural wonders. The bat cave was definitely the icing on the top and our guide Arturo was so patient taking all of our photos and picking us up and driving us from our air bnb outside of town
10/10 would take any friends/family here in the future.

  12. Sam

We had an amazing trip with Juan. We would absolutely use this company again. Juan was super knowledgeable and gave us a fabulous tour of the cenotes

  13. Mitch

Arturo was an amazing guide. The experience picked us up from the hotel, provided a very private experience in an amazing local cenote (Dos Ojos) and we grabbed lunch just before heading out. A very immersive and educational experience. Highly recommend!

  14. Josh H

What an amazing experience!!! And we really enjoyed our guide, Arturo, and Carlos who helped transport us:)

  15. RajS

Fantastic trip to the Dos Ojos cenote. Juan was a phenomenal guide – not only for the cenote dive but also providing history and perspective on the area. The second cenote at Dos Ojos is incredible – the early start was worth it as we had the Bat Cave to ourselves. Strongly recommend this company and Juan!

  16. Jimmy

My wife and I had a private tour of Dos Ojos, and our guide was Arturo and driver was Carlos. The tour was easy to book and communications through WhatsApp with Clare was very efficient and straightforward to help us prepare for the tour. Arturo and Carlos were punctual on the morning. Arturo was very knowledgeable and was able to answer our questions. We did not feel rushed at all and Arturo made sure we did things in our own time, and was happy to move on when we were ready. Carlos stayed in / near the van the whole time and was a very safe driver.
I recommend people that are visiting the cenotes to wear long sleeved swimwear as there are a lot of mosquitoes and you are not allowed to use insect repellant.

  17. Gabrielle

We had an amazing morning at Dos Ojos with Arturo! Arturo was incredibly knowledgeable and a fantastic guide. He brought us in the morning before anyone else was there – it was truly a private tour. After the cenotes he took us to a lunch spot that was delicious! Omar is a wonderful and safe driver. We would absolutely recommend this tour! THANK YOU ARTURO AND OMAR!!

  18. Christy

Amazing Outing! Just finished a great tour of Dos Ojos Cenote with Arturo as our guide & Carlo as our driver. Very attentive staff. They arrived on time for the pick up at our casa in Playacar. I am not super comfortable in deep water. Arturo was very patient, ensuring my equipment was fitted properly & I was good before starting out. It was so much fun!! The Mayan “restaurant” is an open air space in the jungle with a pool, tables & a bar with swings. Amazing, great food prepared on site. Truly a cultural emersion experience. I highly recommend Arturo & this tour!!

  19. Tania

Amazing experience from start to finish. Claire helped us book our private experience for my husband’s 40th. She was responsive and informative. Our guide Arturo was fantastic. He was funny, very knowledgeable about the history and habitat of the cenotes. We loved every bit of it. Would definitely tour with this company again.

  20. Jessica

Amazing morning with Arturo! Prompt pick up from our Airbnb and comfortable ride to the cenotes which were 45 mins away from Tulum. Arturo took us through 3 different areas and was very knowledgeable of the rock formations and history of the cenotes. The cenote was not crowded at all which made for a great private experience. My favorite part was the bat cave! Lunch was included which was also very delicious and authentic. I definitely recommend this tour!

This is a private tour, just for you and your group.

You’ll have a dedicated guide and vehicle all to yourselves—no crowds, no waiting, just a smooth and personalized experience.

Is the driver also the guide?
No. The driver and guide are two different professionals. All our tours include a dedicated driver and a separate certified guide.  While some companies offer a guide-driver, we believe this is not safe. Having a driver focused solely on the road and a guide fully dedicated to our guests ensures a safer and higher-quality experience.
How long does a private Dos Ojos Cenote tour take?
Please check the full itinerary in the “Itinerary” tab for more details.

It typically lasts between 3 to 5 hours, depending on your hotel location and how much time you’d like to spend at each site.

Is transportation included from my hotel or Airbnb?

Yes, round-trip transportation is included from Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum. We’ll pick you up right from your hotel, resort, or Airbnb for a stress-free start to your day.

Please note: we don’t offer pick up from Cancun Playa Mujeres hotels unless your group has 6 or more adults.

What vehicles do you use for your tours?
We offer a range of modern, air-conditioned vans to suit the size of your group and ensure a safe and comfortable journey. Visit our fleet page for more details.
Can I change the pick up time?

Yes, you’re welcome to choose your preferred pick-up time when booking.

That said, we recommend an early morning start to help you beat the crowds, skip the traffic, and enjoy cooler temperatures—it really makes a difference!

Is swimming in cenotes safe?
Absolutely! Swimming in cenotes is very safe.

Cenotes are known for their calm, shallow, and crystal-clear waters, perfect for a relaxed swim.

For added safety, life vests are mandatory for all participants.

Plus, our professional guides are always by your side to make sure you feel comfortable and enjoy your experience at your own pace.

Everything is arranged to ensure you have a safe, stress-free, and unforgettable adventure.

Is snorkeling experience required for this tour?

No previous snorkeling experience is required, but basic swimming skills are necessary.

We provide mandatory life vests, and our guide ensures a safe and comfortable experience for everyone.

Are cenotes cold? Are they easy to access?

No, cenotes aren’t too cold—they stay at a refreshing 75–79°F (24–26°C) year-round, which is perfect for a swim.

Most cenotes have easy access with platforms and just a few steps to get in and out comfortably.

Do we have to wear wetsuits?

No, wetsuits are not mandatory. Only life vests are required for safety.

We do provide wetsuits if you would like extra comfort, especially if you find the water chilly. Wearing a wetsuit can also help you stay in the water longer without getting cold.

Are there showers or changing rooms at the cenotes?

Yes. Facilities include clean showers, restrooms, and changing areas.

What should I bring for the tour? Where can I leave my belongings?
Check the "What to bring" tab on the tour page for the full packing list.

Be sure to bring the essentials: swimwear, a towel, and flip-flops/sandals.

You can safely leave your belongings in the van—our driver stays with it the entire time while you're out enjoying the activities.

Are vegetarian or special dietary meals available?

Yes, we’re happy to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary needs or allergies.
