Dos Ojos Cenote : Get a Mesmerizing Private Snorkeling Experience

Dos Ojos Cenote tour offers you the adventure of a lifetime. You will enjoy the best snorkeling experience by swimming in a part of the longest underwater cave of Mexico. Cenote Dos Ojos is located on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, near the city of Tulum. There, two cenotes join to form a large underground cavern. The term Dos Ojos means “two eyes” in Spanish, referring to the shape of the cenotes viewed from the sky.

But Dos Ojos is more than just a cave!

If you are into snorkeling, our special Dos Ojos cenotes tour will fascinate and captivate you. Cenote Dos Ojos is actually the entrance of a large underground water system also named Dos Ojos systema. Since January 2018, the rivers Dos Ojos and Sac Aktun are connected, forming the largest underground river of Mexico. They form together a single long stretch of 215 miles.

What’s in the cenote?

This large network of fresh water facilitates thriving biodiversity around. Dos Ojos cenote witnessed the evolution of the Yucatan for centuries. Today, there are still evidences of first settlers in America, extinct animals and Mayan culture in the cave.

Meet Dos Ojos, the Movie Star

Not only Dos Ojos is beautiful, but it is also a movie star. IMAX first filmed the underwater cave system in 2002. The film was called “Journey Into Amazing Caves”. Few years later in 2005, various scenes “the Cave”, the Hollywood were filmed in the popular Dos Ojos cenote. Last but not least, it was also featured in Discovery Channel / BBC series “Planet Earth”, released in 2006.

Avoid crowds, get the most of your vacation

Dos Ojos cenote is a must go for scuba divers and snorkelers. The cenote is so amazing it became one of the most visited cenotes in the area! To ensure you get the most of Dos Ojos cenote we will pick you up between 7 am to 7:30 am. You will have the opportunity to explore the cenotes during the early hours with little crowd. This way, you can swim at your own pace, and use your underwater camera to take stunning pictures, without too many people in the background.

Learn More About The Tour

Dos Ojos park entrance is located between Playa Del Playa and Tulum. The trip is about 45 minutes from Playa Del Carmen, or 30 minutes from Tulum Beach hotel zone. Therefore your private guide will pick you up early at your hotel to make sure you arrive before crowds.

After a few miles in the jungle, your private van will reach the cenote area. We will explore the two eyes of the cenotes, snorkeling in the clear and cool water.

The experience starts here!

Once fully equipped, you will enter the cenote thanks to a suitable platform. Entrance and swimming are easy. In fact the cenote is quite shallow for swimming, adults and children can enjoy the experience. However, as the cenote is connected to an underground river, some hidden areas can reach 33 feet or 10m depth.

Each one of the cave has distinct geologic features. One of them includes breathtaking stalagmites and stalactites. Both will enable you to enjoy the stunning natural light. If the level of the water allows it, you will also see a bat cave. This hidden room is only accessible with a guide, via a short swim through the stalactites. A lot of bats leave in this cave, sleeping, hanging on the roof.

For sure, you will have an exhilarating and memorable experience. You will also get the time to enjoy the jungle around the cenotes. Gardens with hammocks will mesmerize you with their flowers, trees and the harmonious singing of the birds.

After the effort comes comfort..

The trip ends by a lunch included in the tour price. We bring you to a traditional Mayan restaurant in the jungle. The Mayan owners will prepare you their local cuisine while you discuss your snorkeling adventure with your friends and family.

A must to visit! It’s a very pretty, crystal clear cenote that is both open and has a cave you can swim through, which is pretty cool. It was very convenient, very reasonably priced.

We booked the Dos Ojos tour. It is well worth a visit! The cenotes were gorgeous, the water clear as a bell, and our guide Juan was fantastic! The snorkeling was great. They provided wet suites, it doesn’t feel cold but after you’ve been in a while you could definitely catch a chill. The snorkeling was fantastic, before the crowds getting in. Make sure you visit!

Totally impressed by Dos Ojos! Such a natural wonder. I went to a few Cenotes on my trips to Mexico and this was by far my favorite. The contrast between the covered and uncovered sides made this a one of a kind place. The entire trip was well planned and included a private van and driver for the day. Thank you Chris for this beautiful day.

It was exceptional, our amazing guide Chris was knowledgeable and fun. The early start was worth it as we were one of the few people in the water.Iit was beyond beautiful with crystal clear water and amazing stalactites and stalagmites formations. We finished it all off with lunch at a local Mayan restaurant which was delicious.

We swam through the Dos Ojos cave equipped with masks, snorkels, lights and life jackets. The guide was friendly and informative. The water is cool (part of the largest cave system in the world) and the guide takes time to show and tell so I was glad wet suits were included. The equipment was of good quality.
