When visiting the Riviera Maya, two unforgettable experiences should be at the top of your list: discovering the region’s rich Mayan heritage and immersing yourself in the area's spectacular natural beauty.
With our private Tulum Ruins & Cenote Tour, you’ll enjoy the perfect balance of culture and adventure in just one day—without the stress of large groups or rigid schedules. This private experience is fully customized to your pace and preferences, offering exclusive access, expert guidance, and the flexibility to make the day your own.
Led by a certified guide, you’ll explore the Tulum Mayan ruins perched above the sea, then cool off in one or two handpicked cenotes. With private transportation, a flexible start time, and personal service, this journey offers a seamless and enriching escape.
Your experience begins with a guided visit to the ancient city of Tulum, one of the most iconic and scenic Mayan sites in Mexico. Once a thriving port and ceremonial center, Tulum was vital for trade along the Yucatán coast—where goods like jade, obsidian, and cacao once changed hands.
Set on a cliff overlooking the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, the site offers postcard-perfect views and a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the ancient Maya. Your guide will share the stories behind structures like the Temple of the Frescoes and El Castillo, along with cultural insights and fun facts tailored to your interests.
Thanks to early access and private transport, you’ll avoid the crowds and midday sun—perfect for uninterrupted photos and peaceful exploration.
Highlights:
After exploring the ruins, it’s time to unwind and refresh in a stunning cenote—a naturally formed freshwater pool hidden within the jungle. Whether you choose one or opt for two, each cenote offers a different experience, from sunlit open-air lagoons to mystical underground caverns filled with stalactites.
You’ll be provided with all the gear needed to swim or snorkel in crystal-clear waters, with a professional guide by your side to ensure safety and help you discover hidden details within the rock formations.
You can select from guest favorites like Cenote Nicte-Ha, Taak Bi Ha, or Jaguar, depending on your comfort level and interests. Want something more adventurous? For an additional $10 USD per person, you can upgrade to world-renowned cenotes like Dos Ojos or Pet Cemetery.
Why you’ll love it:
After your refreshing cenote swim, we’ll head to a peaceful jungle setting where a local restaurant awaits. You’ll relax under a thatched palapa and enjoy a homemade Mexican meal, with options available for vegetarians and guests with dietary restrictions.
This serene setting offers a chance to recharge and reflect on your day’s discoveries while enjoying traditional flavors and warm hospitality.

We did a tour with Josh (guide) and Ivan (driver) and it was amazing. They are both wonderful!! Josh is an excellent guide, he took great care of us and gave us a very unique experience. Ivan was wonderful too, great driver, very kind, and he even found a phone we had forgotten! I would recommend Josh and Ivan 100%, and I would be happy to take this tour again.

Wonderful way to see Tulum and a Cenote
A private tour is worth the extra cost. We never waited in any lines since they knew the best timing for arrival. Arturo was an excellent guide at Tulum and the Cenote. He was entertaining, knowledgeable and professional. Our driver Hugo safely took us to each place in a comfortable, clean van. Our group of 6 enjoyed every moment.

Make your holiday memorable highly recommend
We had an amazing day visiting Tulum and swimming in a cenote with a marvelous taco lunch in the jungle and our expert guide Josh. If you enjoy history, not dealing with mobs of large tour groups, and want a memorable trip in the cenote caves we highly recommend Josh and Hugo with absolute adventure private tour. They were on time, shared the beauty of this region and made for our group of 4 a five star experience. Thank you
LJ –
Amazing private tour of Tulum and swimming in a cenote cave. Highly recommend experience.

We did 2 different trips with Absolute Adventures during our stay in PDC. Our Guide Arturo and Driver Omar were amazing from start to finish. They took care of our every need and answered all 1000 of our questions about mexico. We would definitely book again with them!

Cenotes and Mayan ruins
Arturo was an amazing guide and highly recommend him! He was very informative during the Mayan ruins tour and accommodating with our group.

Antonio and Cristina are the best tour guides!
Frances –
AMAZING! Alex Rodrigo was the perfect guide. He exceeded all expectations. He was kind, informative and responsive to our requests. I think it’s worth it to get the private tour for the ruins. You learn all these incredible facts. I would strongly recommend the Pet Cemetery Cenote, it’s further off the beaten path and fewer crowds. The lunch was the best food we ate on all trip. I can’t imagine a better experience. HIGH recommend.
Russell –
Amazing tour.
I would recommend to everyone.
Tour guides Cristina and Kike were great

Best tour ever! Worth every penny.
We were a group of 12 extended family members from ages 11-70. Every age enjoyed the tour. Alejandro and Antonio were very friendly and seemed happy to be there. Alejandro was our guide and he was very knowledgeable about Tulum and Cenotes. The ride from our resort in Cancun to Tulum went by quickly because he taught us a lot about the history.
We opted to start with a 7am pickup instead of the recommended 6am time and I can see why they suggest to start early. While it worked great for us, I wouldn’t have wanted to be any later. We mostly stayed in front of the crowds and had very few people at the Cenote, which was nice.
The humidity in Tulum was super high and we were really hot at 9am. By 10am, when we were leaving Tulum, we were all dripping with sweat and so excited to jump in the cenote. The Tulum tour was wonderful. The scenery was beautiful and Alejandro taught a lot about the history.
The cenote was so refreshing! 11 of the 12 people in our group jumped off the platform into the water, which was really fun. They gave us all lifejackets with snorkel gear and a few waterproof flashlights. It was so amazing to see the formations under the water. We all loved it.
After spending as much time as we wanted in the Cenote we changed into dry clothes and went to lunch. The restaurant was cute and local and delicious! The people were very friendly.
We lucked out because it started to rain when we left the cenote. Driving back to our resort it rained really hard. The timing for everything was perfect.
When booking this tour, we were considering renting a car and doing it on our own. I am SO happy we didn’t go that route. It would have been stressful and hard to navigate.
Thank you Alejandro and Antonio for an amazing experience! We would recommend them to anyone looking to create memories with their family in Cancun.
Noel –
Cristina and Omar knew all the best places and kept us just in front of the crowds. Wonderful adventure to Tulum ruins, a cenote, and the turtle sanctuary. As a private guided tour we were well taken care of. You could feel the fun that Cristina was having and it was impossible to not have a good time too.
Eva –
We did two tours to Tulum and Chichén Itzá with this company, and both were fantastic. Our tour guide, Arturo, was amazing—very kind, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about Mayan culture. He answered all our questions and gave us a wonderfully informative and engaging experience.
Thank you, Arturo, for the great time! We highly recommend this tour company and especially Arturo for anyone visiting the area.

Family fun trip
Guides were very knowledgeable and very accommodating and flexible. We had our 9 year old and 6 year old and they made the tour interesting and fun for them. Kids absolutely loved the jaguar cenote zip line and platforms to jump off, highlight of our trip and highly recommend

We used Absolute Adventures for 2 seperate tours while we were in Mexico and it was the best choice we could of made! We chose private tours and we would use them again! The communication was spot on, they were on time, super organized, and reasonably priced for the care and services.
Our first tour was to Chitzen Itza, the three of us were picked up on time at 615, (it sounds early but it was 100% the best choice) the drive is long but they offered a stop for coffee and a pastry as well as bathroom breaks along the way. We arrived when there was hardly any people on the site. We were able to get many great pictures and Joshua was so knowledgeable! We all learnt so many things about the history of the Mayans and the area it was great. He was also very mindful of how hot it was and made sure we had breaks in the shade because it is HOT! (Another reason to go early). He was super organized, tickets all ready to go and was great at explaining the process or where we were going next! They had ice cold water and drinks and we ordered a few beer for the long trip. We than went to Valladolid and ate at an AMAZING resturant in the city. We spent some time exploring the square and the surrounding area. They were very knowledgeable about all the things to see and made the day so great. I also have to mention, KiKa our amazing driver. Some of the roads and areas were so busy and nuts but he always found a great place to park and we always felt safe.
Our next trip was for two to the Tulum Ruins, the Tak bi ha cenote, and snorkeling in Akumal. Juan was our guide and he was so fun! He added to all the information Joshua had given us and the ruins were amazing to see. We were literally the first two people into the ruins and again so many great photos, some really great information and facts, even learnt some mayan words. We than went to the cenote and we arrived just as everyone else was leaving and had the whole place to ourselves other than divers gearing up to go! Again full of so much information and great knowledge. Ate at another great restaurant where certain items were included and than off to see the turtles. I wish I had gotten the guides name that took us into the ocean but it was the best experience, he guided us through the water, held us in place so we could view the turtles, squids, fish and sting rays all around. Was an amazing day!! Kika was out again our driver on another fantastic trip.
If your looking for a company with amazing people, thats super organized and great at communication, please use absolute adventure! You really won’t be sad you did!!

Top notch family experience
Tour of Tulum was educational and informative with my husband and 88 year old mom! Cenote was even more special as it was my moms first time snorkeling and our tour guide really helped her navigate the springs… both the tour guide and driver made the day special and also saved us as we forgot a towel!

Absolute Adventures-Mexico was an absolute pleasure to work with and our tour experience was fantastic! The office responded to our questions on chat very quickly and enabled us to increase our group from 4 to 10 easily. They provided important information so we came prepared with essentials. Arturo, our guide and our driver, Rodrigo, ensured we had a safe trip. Arturo was a #1 guide to Tulum and at the cenote. Lunch was delicious and the Palapa we dined under lovely. We give this tour company top grades and would not hesitate to use them again!

You’ll have a dedicated guide and vehicle all to yourselves—no crowds, no waiting, just a smooth and personalized experience.
No. The driver and guide are two different professionals.
All our tours include a dedicated driver and a separate certified guide.
While some companies offer a guide-driver, we believe this is not safe. Having a driver focused solely on the road and a guide fully dedicated to our guests ensures a safer and higher-quality experience.
It typically lasts between 5 to 6 hours, depending on your hotel location and how much time you’d like to spend at each site. Please check the full itinerary in the “Itinerary” tab for more details.
Yes, round-trip transportation is included from Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum. We’ll pick you up right from your hotel, resort, or Airbnb for a stress-free start to your day.
Please note: we don’t offer pick up from Cancun Playa Mujeres hotels unless your group has 6 or more adults.
We offer a range of modern, air-conditioned vans to suit the size of your group and ensure a safe and comfortable journey.
Yes, you’re welcome to choose your preferred pick-up time when booking.
That said, we recommend an early morning start to help you beat the crowds, skip the traffic, and enjoy cooler temperatures—it really makes a difference!
We take a shuttle from the parking lot to the main ruins entrance, so you won’t need to walk far to get to the site.
The guided visit lasts about 45 minutes and we go at a comfortable pace, with breaks if needed.
Just a heads-up—there aren’t many spots to sit. If you have any limitations with walking or taking steps, keep in mind that a few are required to get in and out of the site and to reach the cliff area.
No, unfortunately, we cannot. The beach located within the Tulum ruins has been closed since 2020 and remains inaccessible to visitors.
Additionally, this tour does not include any stops at the Tulum beach area, the hotel zone, or Tulum town center.
No previous snorkeling experience is required, but basic swimming skills are necessary.
We provide mandatory life vests, and our guide ensures a safe and comfortable experience for everyone.
You can view the list of cenotes available for this tour under the ‘Tour Description and General Info’ tab, where you'll also find links to full descriptions of each cenote.
We offer a variety of cenote types, including open-air, semi-open, and cave cenotes.
Unless you've already made your choice, you can decide which cenote to visit together with your tour guide on the day of your tour.
No, cenotes aren’t too cold—they stay at a refreshing 75–79°F (24–26°C) year-round, which is perfect for a swim.
Most cenotes have easy access with platforms and just a few steps to get in and out comfortably.
Yes. Facilities include clean showers, restrooms, and changing areas.
Check the "What to bring" tab on the tour page for the full packing list. Essentials include swimwear, a towel and comfortable shoes.
You can safely leave your belongings in the van—our driver stays with it the entire time while you're out enjoying the activities.
Yes, we’re happy to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary needs or allergies.
After booking, you can let us know your needs by filling out the check-in form—just follow the link in your booking confirmation email.
You can cancel free of charge or reschedule (subject to availability) up to 24 hours before your tour.
We’re a small team and often fully booked 1–2 weeks in advance, so we recommend booking early to secure your spot.
Bonus: if you book at least 2 months in advance (60 days), you’ll qualify for our early bird discount*!
For full details, check out our booking policy page.
