With our private Tulum Ruins & Cenote Tour, you’ll enjoy the perfect balance of culture and adventure in just one day—without the stress of large groups or rigid schedules. This private experience is fully customized to your pace and preferences, offering exclusive access, expert guidance, and the flexibility to make the day your own.

Journey Through Mayan History and Jungle Cenotes

1. Discover the Tulum Mayan Ruins

Your experience begins with a guided visit to the ancient city of Tulum, one of the most iconic and scenic Mayan sites in Mexico. Once a thriving port and ceremonial center, Tulum was vital for trade along the Yucatán coast—where goods like jade, obsidian, and cacao once changed hands.

Set on a cliff overlooking the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, the site offers postcard-perfect views and a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the ancient Maya. Your guide will share the stories behind structures like the Temple of the Frescoes and El Castillo, along with cultural insights and fun facts tailored to your interests.

Thanks to early access and private transport, you’ll avoid the crowds and midday sun—perfect for uninterrupted photos and peaceful exploration.

Highlights:

  • Guided exploration with a certified private guide
  • Stunning cliffside views over the Caribbean
  • Fascinating Mayan history and architecture
  • Early arrival to beat the crowds and heat

2. Swim and Snorkel in a Cenote (or Two!)

After exploring the ruins, it’s time to unwind and refresh in a stunning cenote—a naturally formed freshwater pool hidden within the jungle. Whether you choose one or opt for two, each cenote offers a different experience, from sunlit open-air lagoons to mystical underground caverns filled with stalactites.

You’ll be provided with all the gear needed to swim or snorkel in crystal-clear waters, with a professional guide by your side to ensure safety and help you discover hidden details within the rock formations.

You can select from guest favorites like Cenote Nicte-Ha, Taak Bi Ha, or Jaguar, depending on your comfort level and interests. Want something more adventurous? For an additional $10 USD per person, you can upgrade to world-renowned cenotes like Dos Ojos or Pet Cemetery.

Why you’ll love it:

  • Enjoy the flexibility to book one or two cenotes
  • Great for all ages and skill levels—no current or waves
  • Snorkeling, cliff-jumping, or peaceful floating—your choice
  • Unique geological formations and sacred surroundings
  • Refreshing escape from the tropical heat

3. Savor a Jungle Lunch Experience

After your refreshing cenote swim, we’ll head to a peaceful jungle setting where a local restaurant awaits. You’ll relax under a thatched palapa and enjoy a homemade Mexican meal, with options available for vegetarians and guests with dietary restrictions.

This serene setting offers a chance to recharge and reflect on your day’s discoveries while enjoying traditional flavors and warm hospitality.

I had an amazing experience with Absolute Adventures in Tulum! Everything was well organized, and our guide was incredibly friendly and made the whole trip even more enjoyable. You can tell they really care about making sure everyone has a great time.
The highlight for me was visiting the Tak Bi Ha cenote, it was absolutely stunning. The water was crystal clear, and the whole trip felt peaceful and almost magical. Definitely one of the most beautiful spots I’ve seen.
If you’re in Tulum and looking for a memorable adventure, I highly recommend booking with them!

  2. David W

Great guide, amazing experienceJoshua was an excellent guide. The ruins offered fascinating insight regarding the Mayan culture, and Joshua gave us a solid overview. He was very knowledgeable, ready to dive deeper with any question. The cenote was a perfect followup to the heat of the ruins tour- refreshing, cool, and naturally beautiful. Swimming in the cenote was absolutely a highlight of the trip.

  3. familytraveler2026

Amazing day! This excursion was magical, definitely the highlight of our week in Riviera Maya. Our driver Ivan was so lovely, and our guide Joshua was just the best – down to earth, knowledgeable, engaged and engaging, and very patient with our 6 and 8 yr old kiddos!

We got to Tulum right when it opened (I think we were the first people in!) which was perfect because it was already quite hot. Joshua shared so much interesting history, was happy to answer all our questions, and helped us find great spots for memorable pictures.

What I appreciated about this tour as opposed to most of the other companies I was looking at, was that you are given several different cenotes to choose from, so you can figure out which one(s) are closest to what you’re looking for. We wanted one open lagoon-type one and one cave-type underground one, so we did Nicte Ha and Taak Bi Ha. They did not disappoint!!! Both were beyond magical, and we all had the most amazing time floating around and exploring. We all loved both cenotes, but my 8you particularly loved Nicte Ha (and jumping in!) and my 6yo really loved Taak Bi Ha. Joshua was so wonderful – patient, helpful, and informative, which also giving space for our family to enjoy our time together. Ivan was also so kind and helped our kiddos with their wetsuits!

We were on the fence about whether to do the lunch or not, but I’m so glad we did! The food was great (especially in comparison to the all-inclusive resort we were staying at) but the vibe was even better. So laid-back, with hammocks and swings that our kids got such a kick out of.

I can’t say enough good things about our day, it is definitely something we will remember for a long time!

  4. Robbie

    Pretty fun loved it!

  5. Deborah

It was so amazing to see this in person. Absolutely beautiful. And our guide JanJo was amazing. He was very detailed and passionate about the tour

  6. Audrey

We had a wonderful pre-wedding tour of the Tulum ruins and the Cenote. All of our tour guides and drivers were informative and attentive to all of our questions! Big thanks to Dulce and Antonio!

  7. Kindra S

Fabulous half day excursion to Tulum and Cenote! This was the perfect way to see the ruins and visit a cenote in a half day. Our guide, Dulce, did a great job explaining while keeping us moving along at a good pace. She gave us three options for the cenote and we ended with a delicious lunch. A perfect way to see some Tulum highlights if you have limited time.

  8. Alli

My family’s first time going to a cenote and it was a great experience! Dulce was our guide and she was incredibly friendly and informative (and spoke great English, which was helpful for us). Definitely recommend!

  9. Aleksandr C

A good time!A great experience! The guide was friendly, knowledgeable and well organized.
We went on our tour of Tulum first thing in the morning when it wasn’t too hot, and there weren’t tons of other people around.
JJ was friendly, happy and knew what he was about, and made the experience lots of fun. Our driver, Yosmar, was a good driver who did his best to get us around safely and avoid a ton of potholes at the same time.
The trip to Cenote Taak Bi Ha was fun, definitely a different experience to my usual spelunking stuff, since the water was only mildly colder than the air and easy to adapt to quickly. The cave was interesting, lots of little bitty fish in the water and a few bats in the stalagtites. They provided snorkeling gear that was clearly of good make, though my particular set of goggles didn’t seal well because of my beard.
After we all went to a nearby restaurant (Juanita’s) and had an excellent meal, I got the mixed plate and tried a bit of everything, it was all good.
It’s a bit of a pity that our guide will be retiring after this season, I would absolutely have hired him for another tour on another trip.

  10. Nicholas H

Very Worthwhile ExperienceJuan, Dulce, & Eddy were our tour guides and they were excellent. Very fun, informative, and considerate

  11. Jim

Absolutely the greatest guide and driver you could ask for. JJ and Yosmar filled those boots perfectly! You won’t find anyone better, in my opinion.

Very thorough in preparing us, sharing the culture, and genuinely cares for all of us! Taking 37 people into the Ruins and Cenote is quite a task!

You two knocked it out of the park! Thank you for providing a positive, safe, and fun experience.

  12. Victoria

Amazing tour guides and service. Even with our large group, they were knowledgeable, helpful, and wonderful! JJ was our tour guide and he made everything so fun. Having Yosmar as a driver to watch our belongings was amazing and made the experience stress free. Cannot recommend enough!

  13. dcfrompcreek

Looking forward to a new adventure next year!We were a group of 10 with varying ages from 6-76 & everyone enjoyed it!
For the Tulum ruins tour, our tour guide Josh, came equipped with a Tablet with photos of what the various buildings, cultural events, etc., would have looked like. The children loved it, brilliant! Josh really kept them engaged, was endlessly patient with their questions & it was the perfect length of tour for them especially. The 6 adults were impressed as well, we found the walking tour relaxing, well organised & informative with beautiful views of the coastline.
Next up was the Cenote snorkel at Taak Bi Ha & another huge success. Just stunning.
Last was the lunch at a unique jungle restaurant. The food was delicious & again, enjoyed by all.
Thanks Josh, it was a memorable event for all of us.

  14. Benjamin

I had nothing but a positive experience on this trip. Eddy was very helpful and gave us lots of information. Our driver Omar made sure that we got around as fast as possible. We visited the Mayan ruins and the underground cenotes. We also had authentic Mexican food for lunch. It was nothing but a positive experience and I would definitely go again.

  6. Audrey

We had a wonderful pre-wedding tour of the Tulum ruins and the Cenote. All of our tour guides and drivers were informative and attentive to all of our questions! Big thanks to Dulce and Antonio!

Our cenote tour was excellent from start to finish! Eddie and Omar arrived early to pick us up and were ready to go, which we really appreciated. Eddie was incredibly knowledgeable about the area, the local culture, and the cenotes we visited, which made the experience even more special. Lunch at Juanita’s Restaurant was also fantastic and a great addition to the day. We highly recommend Absolute Adventures, and especially Eddie and Omar, for an amazing cenote tour experience!

FAQ Tulum Ruins Cenote Private Tour

Is the Tulum Ruins Cenote tour private or shared?
This is a private tour, just for you and your group.

You’ll have a dedicated guide and vehicle all to yourselves—no crowds, no waiting, just a smooth and personalized experience.

Is the driver also the guide?

No. The driver and guide are two different professionals.

All our tours include a dedicated driver and a separate certified guide.

While some companies offer a guide-driver, we believe this is not safe. Having a driver focused solely on the road and a guide fully dedicated to our guests ensures a safer and higher-quality experience.

How long does a private Tulum Ruins Cenote tour take?

It typically lasts between 5 to 6 hours, depending on your hotel location and how much time you’d like to spend at each site. Please check the full itinerary in the “Itinerary” tab for more details.

Is transportation included from my hotel or Airbnb?

Yes, round-trip transportation is included from Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum. We’ll pick you up right from your hotel, resort, or Airbnb for a stress-free start to your day.

Please note: we don’t offer pick up from Cancun Playa Mujeres hotels unless your group has 6 or more adults.

What vehicles do you use for your tours?

We offer a range of modern, air-conditioned vans to suit the size of your group and ensure a safe and comfortable journey.

Visit our fleet page for more details.

Can I change the pick up time?

Yes, you’re welcome to choose your preferred pick-up time when booking.

That said, we recommend an early morning start to help you beat the crowds, skip the traffic, and enjoy cooler temperatures—it really makes a difference!

How much walking is there at the Tulum ruins?

We take a shuttle from the parking lot to the main ruins entrance, so you won’t need to walk far to get to the site.

The guided visit lasts about 45 minutes and we go at a comfortable pace, with breaks if needed.

Just a heads-up—there aren’t many spots to sit. If you have any limitations with walking or taking steps, keep in mind that a few are required to get in and out of the site and to reach the cliff area.

Can we spend some time at Tulum beach during the tour?

No, unfortunately, we cannot. The beach located within the Tulum ruins has been closed since 2020 and remains inaccessible to visitors.

Additionally, this tour does not include any stops at the Tulum beach area, the hotel zone, or Tulum town center.

Is snorkeling experience required for this tour?

No previous snorkeling experience is required, but basic swimming skills are necessary.

We provide mandatory life vests, and our guide ensures a safe and comfortable experience for everyone.

Which cenote(s) do we visit on this tour?

You can view the list of cenotes available for this tour under the ‘Tour Description and General Info’ tab, where you'll also find links to full descriptions of each cenote.

We offer a variety of cenote types, including open-air, semi-open, and cave cenotes.

Unless you've already made your choice, you can decide which cenote to visit together with your tour guide on the day of your tour.

Are cenotes cold? Are they easy to access?

No, cenotes aren’t too cold—they stay at a refreshing 75–79°F (24–26°C) year-round, which is perfect for a swim.

Most cenotes have easy access with platforms and just a few steps to get in and out comfortably.

Are there showers or changing rooms at the cenotes?

Yes. Facilities include clean showers, restrooms, and changing areas.

What should I bring for the tour? Where can I leave my belongings?

Check the "What to bring" tab on the tour page for the full packing list. Essentials include swimwear, a towel and comfortable shoes.

You can safely leave your belongings in the van—our driver stays with it the entire time while you're out enjoying the activities.

Are vegetarian or special dietary meals available?

Yes, we’re happy to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary needs or allergies.

After booking, you can let us know your needs by filling out the check-in form—just follow the link in your booking confirmation email.

What is the cancellation policy?
Go ahead and plan with confidence—your booking is fully flexible!

You can cancel free of charge or reschedule (subject to availability) up to 24 hours before your tour.

We’re a small team and often fully booked 1–2 weeks in advance, so we recommend booking early to secure your spot.

Bonus: if you book at least 2 months in advance (60 days), you’ll qualify for our early bird discount*!
