If you're looking to combine ancient history with natural wonders, our Coba and cenote tour offers the perfect mix of culture, adventure, and relaxation. This all-inclusive private tour takes you deep into the heart of the Riviera Maya, where you'll explore the fascinating archaeological site of Coba and enjoy a refreshing swim in a crystal-clear cenote hidden in the jungle. With personalized service, expert guiding, and all logistics handled, it's an unforgettable way to spend your day.
Your Coba and cenote tour begins with a morning pick-up from your accommodation, followed by a comfortable drive to the ancient city of Coba, one of the most significant and expansive Maya sites in the region. Coba was once a powerful city-state during the Classic period, with a population that may have reached over 50,000 inhabitants at its peak. It is renowned for its vast network of sacbéob (ancient white roads), majestic temples, and towering pyramid structures.
To make the most of your visit, we schedule the arrival early to avoid large crowds and the midday heat. Once at the site, your private guide—an expert in Maya history and archaeology—will lead you on a journey through the ruins, explaining the significance of each structure and the fascinating stories behind them. You'll hop on a bicycle or take a comfortable pedicab ride through the jungle pathways, making your way to Nohoch Mul, the tallest pyramid in the northern Yucatán (though no longer climbable for preservation reasons, it still impresses with its scale and jungle surroundings). Other highlights include the ceremonial ball court, observatories, and stone stelae carved with ancient glyphs.
After your deep dive into Maya history, your Coba ruins tour continues with a completely different kind of adventure—exploring a cenote. Cenotes are natural freshwater sinkholes, found throughout the Yucatán Peninsula and were sacred to the Maya, who believed they were gateways to the underworld.
We’ll take you to a nearby cenote nestled in the jungle, where you can cool off and explore the surreal underground landscape. Equipped with a life vest, you'll swim among otherworldly rock formations like stalactites and stalagmites, and enjoy the peace of this calm, crystal-clear environment.
Your certified guide will ensure your safety and comfort at all times, while also sharing insights about cenote geology, local legends, and how these natural formations shaped the Maya worldview.
Once you've had your fill of swimming, your Coba and Cenote tour wraps up with a well-deserved traditional Mexican lunch in the charming town of Coba. We stop at a local restaurant that offers a variety of Yucatán specialties such as cochinita pibil (slow-roasted pork), empanadas, panuchos, and freshly made tacos served with handmade tortillas.
This relaxed meal is a chance to experience the warm hospitality and rich flavors of the region, with options available for all dietary preferences. It's the perfect way to reflect on your morning of discovery and unwind before the return journey.
By the end of this private Coba ruins tour, you’ll have walked in the footsteps of the ancient Maya, explored breathtaking natural landscapes, and tasted the best of local cuisine—all without the hassle of planning or navigating on your own. Let us take care of the details while you enjoy a seamless and enriching Riviera Maya experience.

My sister and I took a private tour this past month with Alex and Enrique. The tour was early and it was fantastic; we had great photos from Coba, where we were nearly the only ones there. We had the cenotes completely to ourselves and the excellent lunch afterwords as well. They were so informative about the mythology, culture and surrounding wherever we were. My husband and I had a small group tour to nearly the same destinations in 2012 but the private tour blew me away with how much more I got out of this trip. Definitely go!
Michael –
Great tour and our guide Juan was awesome. Our driver Omarr was tremendous as well. Juan was knowledgeable and very personable. A joy to spend the day with. In our time together we learned not just of Coba and the history of the place and people, but also of the current region and culture. Highly recommended!
Vanessa –
Absolutely incredible excursion!
Our tour guide Alex was so incredibly knowledgeable and made our experience amazing! Learning about Mayan civilization was fascinating the cenote experience was the highlight of our trip! The lunch was the best food we had during our e tire vacation! Our driver Rodrigo was great and got us safely to all of our destinations!
David –
A tour we’ll never forget!
Such a wonderful, memorable tour! Alex, our guide, and Rodrigo, our driver, took great care of us. We toured Mayan ruins in Coba, swam in two cenotes and it even included a private lunch at a local restaurant. Alex was knowledgeable and taught us so much about Mayan culture. Restroom breaks were planned along our route and we were able to include water and drinks. Would completely recommend, and we’ll use Absolute Adventure next time we come to Mexico!

Alejandro was a fantastic tour guide, so funny, knowledgeable and interesting! He was able to explain what archaeologists already know about the ruins and make the past come alive. I really appreciated his and Enrique’s thoughtfulness too, making sure we could get breakfast and use bathrooms as needed. The Koba ruins were so impressive, and the cenote were magical! I loved swimming in the cool water and playing with the fish. Thank you both for a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Wonderful trip!
We had an awesome time in Coba. Arturo is a great and knowledgeable tour guide and Jorge got us there safe and sound. Van was very nice and comfortable. Coba ruins are so interesting. The bike ride through the jungle is fun and a great way to see the site. I do recommend going as early as you can. We got there early but as we were leaving the big tour busses pulled in and the place was overrun. Arturo made the site come alive with his explanations. Next we visited two cenotes. One for pictures and the other for a relaxing swim. The cool water was so refreshing and clear. Lastly was a yummy Mayan lunch. I highly recommend Absolute Adventure Mexico. (If you google them, you’ll find more tours on their website. )

Amazing customized experience.
We had a great time on our tour. Arturo was a wonderful tour guide. We enjoyed biking in the jungle to see the Coba Ruins. Then we experienced a very authentic lunch in the Los Ojas cenotes park followed by a snorkel in the cenote. Arturo led us on a snorkel tour into the cenote and then let us swim and explore on our own in the lush cenote pool. Highly recommend this tour. It was recommended to us and we loved it. We felt extremely safe on this tour. We were transferring to Cozumel from Cancun that day so all our luggage was in the private van and well guarded by the driver when we went on the excursions.
Cam –
Arturo took us to Coba where we biked to the various ruins and temples followed up by a visit to a cenote and then a delicious authentic lunch. He was great and did a fantastic job. We have 4 kids 8 and under and it worked out great. Some rode, our oldest biked herself.
Chris –
The most favorite part of our trip!!!!!!! Don’t hesitate, book it! The Mayan experience AND Cenotes!!!!! Incredible! And our guide Joshua made it so special!!!! Thank you so much.
Jillian –
FABULOUS coba tour and cenote swim with Joshua and Arturo. Joshua is a wonderful storyteller, making Mayan history interesting and fun. Both guides were extremely nice and helpful throughout the tour.
Happy to see the countryside a bit and small towns as we drove, and Mayan jungle up close on our bike rides at coba, too. We were a big group of 29, here in riviera maya for my son’s wedding – everyone enjoyed this tour! The cenote was amazing too, and so refreshing, swimming in the cool waters in a cave on a hot sunny day. Highly recommend!
Note: a fair amount of walking at coba and a lot of slippery stairs for the cenote. Not the easiest tour for those with mobility challenges.
Priscillia –
Best part of our trip!!!! 6 of us, we are parents with our adult kids and their significant others. Absolutely LOVED our guide Joshua. A private comfortable air conditioned van picked us up and gave us the most wonderful tour through Coba. Bikes were so much fun and Joshua had so much fascinating information. Cenotes were unbelievable, same with the lunch. Dont think twice, just book it!!!!!! I can’t imagine leaving Mexico without experiencing this!!!!! Thank you Joshua, so very much!!!!!!

Arturo was an amazing guide, and Absolute Adventure was a great company
What a great company. Honestly, it’s so hard to know what kind of experience you are booking in advance, but we lucked out big time with Absolute Adventure. Never once did I feel like they were trying to take advantage of us, or take us to some secret tourist trap. We have been with other groups that get a cut from taking you to partners locations, but not them. Arturo was our guide and he was amazing… patient with my two kids, went at the pace we wanted to go at, and extremely knowledgeable and trustworthy. I would 100 percent recommend Absolute Adventure to anyone that is looking for a great private excursion, with a great guide
Cathy –
We had such a great day visiting Coba and swimming in two incredible cenotes. Joshua was an amazing guide- he shared so much detail about the history of the Mayan people and truly made our visit feel interesting and lively. We loved riding bikes throughout the Coba site- that just added another fun element. Our timing was perfect- we were the first ones to arrive at Coba- and just loved that we could enjoy it free of crowds. And we also were the first ones at each of the cenotes- allowing us to enjoy their unique beauty privately. Truly a treat. Joshua took such great care of us throughout the day. And Omar was an excellent driver. What a special day!

Amazing Experience- Tulum/Coba & Cenotes
We did the tour of Tulum, Coba and Cenotes swim and it was a fantastic experience. The sights are unique and interesting in and of themselves- but the real stars of our experience were our guides and driver.
We were fortunate to have Arturo and Joshua as our guides along with Gonzalo as the driver. The insight and history they shared with us was fascinating- also such nice people to spend the day with! The transportation was comfortable and spotless and refreshments were available throughout.
The tour was extremely well organized- communication right from the initial booking was excellent. Timing was spot on to avoid crowds and allowed us to have a relaxed and comfortable experience. Lunch was fantastic as well.
All in all we couldn’t have asked for a better experience!
Thanks to everyone at Absolute Adventure for making our day memorable.

excellent experience – our guide Arturo was so friendly and accommodating and knowledgeable. we had the best time. couldn’t have seen or experienced or learned as much if we did it ourselves
AkCosmo –
Excellent trip to Coba Ruins and Cenotes.
We had a wonderful tour to Cobá Ruins, 2 cenote (swimming in one), and a wonderful authentic Mexican lunch. We had the Coba ruins practically to ourselves. We even saw monkeys while at the ruins. Our guide Arturo was very knowledgeable and made us feel comfortable. Our driver Carlos was an excellent and safe driver. The early pickup time was well worth it since we beat the crowds to the ruins and cenote. Thanks for a memorable time. My 13 year old and 11 year old enjoyed it as well.
