If you're looking to combine ancient history with natural wonders, our Coba and cenote tour offers the perfect mix of culture, adventure, and relaxation. This all-inclusive private tour takes you deep into the heart of the Riviera Maya, where you'll explore the fascinating archaeological site of Coba and enjoy a refreshing swim in a crystal-clear cenote hidden in the jungle. With personalized service, expert guiding, and all logistics handled, it's an unforgettable way to spend your day.
Your Coba and cenote tour begins with a morning pick-up from your accommodation, followed by a comfortable drive to the ancient city of Coba, one of the most significant and expansive Maya sites in the region. Coba was once a powerful city-state during the Classic period, with a population that may have reached over 50,000 inhabitants at its peak. It is renowned for its vast network of sacbéob (ancient white roads), majestic temples, and towering pyramid structures.
To make the most of your visit, we schedule the arrival early to avoid large crowds and the midday heat. Once at the site, your private guide—an expert in Maya history and archaeology—will lead you on a journey through the ruins, explaining the significance of each structure and the fascinating stories behind them. You'll hop on a bicycle or take a comfortable pedicab ride through the jungle pathways, making your way to Nohoch Mul, the tallest pyramid in the northern Yucatán (though no longer climbable for preservation reasons, it still impresses with its scale and jungle surroundings). Other highlights include the ceremonial ball court, observatories, and stone stelae carved with ancient glyphs.
After your deep dive into Maya history, your Coba ruins tour continues with a completely different kind of adventure—exploring a cenote. Cenotes are natural freshwater sinkholes, found throughout the Yucatán Peninsula and were sacred to the Maya, who believed they were gateways to the underworld.
We’ll take you to a nearby cenote nestled in the jungle, where you can cool off and explore the surreal underground landscape. Equipped with a life vest, you'll swim among otherworldly rock formations like stalactites and stalagmites, and enjoy the peace of this calm, crystal-clear environment.
Your certified guide will ensure your safety and comfort at all times, while also sharing insights about cenote geology, local legends, and how these natural formations shaped the Maya worldview.
Once you've had your fill of swimming, your Coba and Cenote tour wraps up with a well-deserved traditional Mexican lunch in the charming town of Coba. We stop at a local restaurant that offers a variety of Yucatán specialties such as cochinita pibil (slow-roasted pork), empanadas, panuchos, and freshly made tacos served with handmade tortillas.
This relaxed meal is a chance to experience the warm hospitality and rich flavors of the region, with options available for all dietary preferences. It's the perfect way to reflect on your morning of discovery and unwind before the return journey.
By the end of this private Coba ruins tour, you’ll have walked in the footsteps of the ancient Maya, explored breathtaking natural landscapes, and tasted the best of local cuisine—all without the hassle of planning or navigating on your own. Let us take care of the details while you enjoy a seamless and enriching Riviera Maya experience.

If you’re looking for one of those rare tour experiences where everything just clicks into place, this is it.
Absolute Adventure delivered astonishing service from start to finish. Our guide, Josh, and driver, Kike, made the entire day feel effortless. We were picked up in an immaculate van stocked with cold drinks and all the little necessities you don’t realize you’ll appreciate until you’re out exploring. It felt less like a tour and more like white-glove service.
Josh’s English was flawless, and he struck the perfect balance between being informative and letting us simply enjoy the experience. There was no rushing from stop to stop, no forced shopping opportunities, and none of the tourist-trap nonsense that can sometimes creep into excursions in the area. Just a well-organized day focused on what you actually came to see: stunning cenotes, fascinating history, and a memorable experience.
The day was capped off with lunch at Chile Picante, a beautiful spot where we were served an absolute feast. The cochinita pibil was the best I’ve had anywhere in the Yucatán.
Professional, comfortable, authentic, and genuinely enjoyable. Absolute Adventure set a very high bar for what a guided excursion should be. Highly recommended.

Great Mexico Tour with Absolute Adventure Mexico. We’ve done other tours in Mexico and other places in the world. This was one of the best operated and most interesting. Dulce and Omar took great care of us, very knowledgeable and answered our many questions. They let us take our time as well to take pictures and just wander around the area. Definitely take the bicycles at Coba, and climb the temple stairs!
5 well deserved stars! Would definitely book with Absolute Adventure Mexico again!

The whole trip was amazing, but our tour guide made it that much better! JJ (Juan) was an amazing guide and was very knowledgeable, friendly, fun, and made the trip that much more memorable. Very grateful for the experience!

Coba and cenotes to ourselves! We had a private tour for our family of 5 of Coba and two cenotes. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and the best was that we beat the crowds everywhere we went! We arrived at Coba just after 8am and there were very few people around. We had the whole pyramid temple to ourselves – hiked up, view a the top, hiked down, with no one else around! Same at the cenotes. We visited two underground cenotes afterward and were the only people there for a swim which was pretty special. Would definitely recommend! Friendly service, good communication, great schedule. Price seems to be consistent with any other private tour.

very good experience of Mayan ruinsVisit to Coba was amazing as an ancient ruins, Mayan ruins. Site was very safe and well maintained. Must need guide to appreciate the visit otherwise it is meaningless. Facility at Coba was very well balanced without destroying the ruin aspect. It’s not developed. Must arrange transportation to come back. Cenotes are good if you want to experience to swim in undergrounds cave. Both of the cenotes were smaller than Olympic size pool. Water was clean to swim. 10 minutes swim is enough for excitement. visually Coba and Centoes are not appealing. but you go for the experience. Nothing else to do there. 1.5 hr drive from Playa del Carmen on not-so-good road. Spent $420 for two and about 1/2 day for a round trip from Playa del Carmen in a private van with a driver, Rodri and an amazing tour guide Josh from Absolute Adventures.

Great Experience! Enrique was our driver and Eduardo was our tour guide at the Ruins and Cenotes. We really had a good time. We felt safe and comfortable during our trip to the Coba Ruins and the Cenotes. The van was air conditioned and roomy. They were also on time to pick us up directly at our resort lobby. I would recommend booking with Absolute Adventure again. Thanks for showing us a totally new experience that we will always remember as a family.

Cristina and Hugo were absolutely phenomenal on our trip to the Coba ruins and surrounding cenotes! Very knowledgeable, friendly, and thoughtful. We couldn’t have asked for better guides to show us around the area and would book with them again in a heartbeat.
Amanda –
Absolutely wonderful. Our Guide Christina was so knowledgeable and friendly. After reading several options we chose the Coba and Cenote Tour. Our family is so grateful for this one of a kind experience we had. Our guide handled all the transactions included and made things go so smoothly. Coba was a very interesting and beautiful tour with so many archaeological sites, birds and plants. The two cenotes we got to visit were breathtaking. The bigger of the two we swam in. It was almost a surreal feeling floating deep underground in very clear and warm water. We had a delicious lunch at a local restaurant and were very impressed. I highly recommend this tour company.

導遊Dulce非常細心親切,每個景點都解說得很詳細,去玩水也幫我們準備好各式的裝備,司機開車的也很好.中午吃飯也不錯,中午吃飯的也吃得很好。 Our tour guide, Dulce, was very attentive and friendly. She explained each attraction in detail and even prepared all the necessary equipment for us to go water activities. The driver was also very good. The lunch was also quite good.

Outstanding Family Adventures with Absolute Adventures in Tulum – Highly Recommended!
We recently visited Tulum with our two teenage daughters and booked two half-day excursions with Absolute Adventures—and both were absolutely fantastic! We had the pleasure of having the same guide, Josh, for both trips, and he was truly exceptional.
First, we did the half-day cenotes tour. Josh led us to two stunning cenotes: one inside a dramatic cave filled with incredible stalactites (perfect for that wow-factor swim), and another magical open cenote surrounded by beautiful lily pads. He shared fascinating insights into the geology and formation of cenotes while we swam, making the experience both fun and educational.
The second excursion took us to the ancient Mayan ruins at Coba. Biking through the lush jungle paths to the site was a highlight—Josh kept our teens fully engaged the whole time with lively storytelling about Mayan history, pointing out wildlife, and answering every question. The girls were genuinely interested and excited, which is no small feat!
The transportation was spotless (clean van with plenty of room), and there was a well-stocked cooler full of cold drinks and water—such a thoughtful touch after all the activity.
Josh went above and beyond to make both days memorable, safe, and enjoyable for the whole family. His knowledge, enthusiasm, and genuine care really set these tours apart.
We wholeheartedly recommend Absolute Adventures for anyone visiting the Tulum area—whether you’re traveling with teens, kids, or just want an authentic, well-guided experience. Five stars aren’t enough! Thank you, Josh and the Absolute Adventures team!

Magical Maya
Our day exploring Mayan ruins and swimming in two cenotes was fabulous. Our guide Josh was knowledgeable and great at answering our questions. Biking through the jungle to the ruins added another level of fun. We swam in two underground cenotes for a magical experience. Our group ages ranged from 5 to 69 and Josh accommodated us all. Lunch at a local restaurant was delicious. Our driver Javi was very kind and drove us safely.

Perfect day
We were beyond pleased with Absolute Adventure! Josh and Javi took us on a Coba and Cenote tour and the day was perfect! Pick up was on time. Josh, our guide, was knowledgeable and helpful at all the destinations. He brought a tablet with some great visual references for us to see at the Coba archeological site as well as verbally telling us about the site and the Mayan culture. He got many group pictures of us at the best sites. Coba Cenotes were magical. The company provided everything we needed for the day – and the company’s list of what to bring with you was spot on! Listen to them 🙂 Lunch destination was delicious and ordered ahead by our guide so it was very efficient and quick. I would 100% recommend Absolute Adventure and give a 6 out of 5 star rating to Josh and Javi.
