Rio Lagartos and Las Coloradas Private Tour

If you love nature and are interested in viewing unique Mexican wildlife, then your group won’t want to miss the chance to go on our all-inclusive Las Coloradas – Rio Lagartos Tour. This small fishing village’s name is translated as “Alligator River”, although its famous lagoon is actually home to a lot of diverse wild life.

You will get observe wild animals from a private boat.

Our private guided tour, which is ideal for families, will take you to the northern shores of the Yucatán Peninsula to explore the area’s most popular attraction, the Rio Lagartos Nature Reserve. This area is full of diverse wildlife. Once we reach the beautiful lagoon, your professional guide will take you out for a private boat tour of the area. While you boat around the lagoon, you’ll be able to go birdwatching and see beautiful birds like pink flamingos, herons, pelicans, eagles, frigate birds, and geese. You may even see as few crocodiles if you are lucky!

We’ll also stop by Las Coloradas, an area of the lagoon where salt has been extracted from the seawater for decades. This area is home to the second largest salt factory in the country. You’ll definitely want to have your camera ready since this area is known for its breathtakingly beautiful pink lagoon water.

You have to see it to believe it!

Coming back from the boat, we will again go to Las Coloradas. This time will take place by car so you can experience an extended view of Las Coloradas.

The lagoon is not always flashy pink as its color depends on the sun light and the salt production process from the factory. None of which is predictable. Swimming at Las Coloradas is strictly forbidden and can actually hurt your skin.

After exploring the Rio Lagartos, you’ll probably be hungry. Your guide will take you to a local restaurant where you can enjoy some fresh fish for lunch. This restaurant is in the small, natural town of Rio Lagartos. We’ll either eat there or at another small village with delicious traditional meat / smoked meat meals, you decide!

Let’s go on an Absolute Adventure, choose our Las Coloradas Rio Lagartos Tour!

Wonderful day at Rio Lagartos with Claire and Ervin. We saw a lot of birds and the captain fed them with fishes so we got some fantastic photos. Then we went to Las Coloradas for great shots of the pink lakes. We finished with a delicious lunch, grilled meat with tortillas.

  4. Brooke

The drive was interesting as we passed trough some small villages and our tour guide was very knowledgable and respectful of the culture and the land. Our captain found a horse shoe crab and explained to us that it was one of the oldest living crustations, he pointed out many bird species and some crocodile.

  5. Alistair

My Husband and i went on the Rio Lagartos tour and loved every minute of it!! Its a long day though. Once we arrived we got into a small boat and headed out to see the Flamingos. We saw many different types of birds and even got to see a crocodiles in the water! Recommend a camera to get the best shots. Then we went to Las Coloradas, what a unique place!

We went to Rio Lagartos and Las Coloradas and it was a great day! Pink lakes were beautiful! We have never been on private tours before but we feel it was 100% worth the extra price and excellent value for money. I highly recommend this company!

  7. Barbara

We saw not only flamingos but numerous species of birds fish and crocodiles. Chino was our guide, he was very knowledgeable of the local flora and fauna. We learnt a lot about this beautiful place.

  8. Courtney

Our guide and driver Juan Jose and Ervin, arrived on time to pick us up and they were very knowledgeable and friendly. They made the trip exciting, fun and stress free looking after us as we Rio Lagartos and Las Coloradas. Cold drinks (and beer) plus snacks helped the travel go that much quicker, when driving the long distances. Can’t beat the professional service, and great not to be in a large group, a tour just for the 2 of us, making it a much more personal experience.

  9. Tim

Both company and guides are great. Our guide, Juan Jose, was the best I have ever had. He was knowledgeable and fun. This day exceeded our expectations, thank you!

  10. Ziva

Arturo was amazing. Him and our driver (I apologize for not recalling his name at this time) were fantastic. We went to a small town to see this beautiful pink lagoon. It was glorious. A beautiful boat ride and even more awesome food that we ended up with for lunch. It was absolutely gorgeous for bird watchers and unique oddity seekers alike.

  11. Mary

Can’t recommend Arturo from Absolute Adventure enough. Rio Lagartos is a beautiful lagoon and we had a great boat trip with a very friendly captain. Thanks for such a nice moment!
