If you’ve come to visit the Riviera Maya because you’re fascinated by the ancient Mayan cities, then this all-inclusive private Tulum Coba tour is perfect for your group. Not only will we take you and your fellow history lovers to explore the ancient city of Coba, which dates back to the Classic period of the Mayan history, but we’ll also visit the coastal ruins of Tulum, a former trading port that was at its peak during the civilization’s Postclassic period.
Our tour begins with a visit to Tulum, which is widely considered to be one of the most important sites left by the Mayans.
We plan our tours to avoid the crowds so that you can enjoy the experience as much as possible, and also provide you with a friendly, knowledgeable personal tour guide who will show you all of the archaeological highlights and share fascinating facts about the Mayans with you. In addition to viewing the beautiful temple of the descending god, you’ll be able to view the impressive main temple “El Castillo” and spend as much time as you like enjoying the breathtaking views of the nearby Caribbean Sea.
Once you’ve explored every single nook and cranny of Tulum, we’ll head to the ancient city of Coba, which is located a bit further inland. To start, we’ll go for an unforgettable ride through the jungle on the city’s famous network of ancient stone roadways.
Your tour guide will also take you to see Coba’s most interesting features, such as the large pyramid Nohoch Mul, which you’ll be welcome to climb if you want! Finally, we’ll end the tour by stopping for a delicious lunch of authentic Mexican food at a local restaurant, where you can relax and discuss all of the amazing things you’ve seen and done throughout the day.
Want to do more in your day trip?… Nothing better than swimming after the ruins!
To extend this adventure, we offer the option to add a cenote swim at the end of the tour. In that case we visit the 2 cenotes of Coba! One of them including cliff jumping! To book it just select the tour “Tulum Coba Cenote” just below the calendar.

We had an amazing day with Dulce and Carlos doing this tour! Dulce was very knowledgeable and took wonderful photos at the sites. Tulum was very picturesque and Coba was a great adventure. We had so much fun and learned a lot about the Mayans and these sites. Carlos navigated the roads with expert skill and got us to and from where we needed to go safely. I could not recommend this excursion and this company enough!
Tom –
Our group of 10 had a wonderful time. Rodrigo was an expert driver with a comfortable vehicle and we can’t say enough praise for Juan “JJ”. He was so fun, informative and made our experience visiting the Tulum and Cota ruins, followed by 2 cenotes even better!
Bill G –
Tulum and Coba are very different Mayan sites, one on the shore and one in the jungle. Our 11- hour tour from Cancun was about 11 hours and included a nice lunch at Coba. Hector, our private tour guide was very informative and patient with our questions.
Tour67 –
My husband, myself and 3 young adult children went on the private archaeological tour to Coba and Tulum Mayan ruins. Everything was perfect and as advertised. Pick up at hotel was seamless. Early Tulum entry was much appreciated, having been there before in the crowds. This was my first time to Coba and it was the highlight of the trip. The Tour guide was very informative and answered all my questions about Mayan and Mexican history/geography. He was a wonderful host and took wonderful pictures of family. Definitely Excellent trip.
Barker –
Amazing day with Manuel touring Tulum and Coba! He was a wonderful guide and lots of fun to be around. He took some amazing photos of our family and we enjoyed a wonderful lunch together. So glad we took the private tour – very worth it!
Jacalyn –
Excellent tour with Juan from start to finish. Because we were staying near the Tulum ruins we started there. Very informative information. Continued to Cobá to climb to the top of the temple and see the spectacular views. We did the two person sitting bike so we could really take in the views along the way as our guide described structures, plants and animals. Last stop at a small beautiful restaurant, chose to sit upstairs for viewing and nice breeze. Our food was delicious as was the host.

We were so glad we found this private tour and had a great day with our guide Juan. Pickup and drop off were seamless. Being able to be on a private tour meant we got to both sites before the huge crowds, and we went at our own pace. Juan was able to provide the perfect amount of time, and information at each place based on our needs. He was friendly and very knowledgable. The authentic lunch in the town by Coba was great food we would have never found on our own. An overall 5 star experience.

My teen son and I had been most looking forward to our tour of Coba and Tulum out of all the things we had planned for our Mexican vacation. Having studied archeology in college it was a dream of mine to make a trip to see various mayan sites in the Yucatan including Coba. Our day turned out to meet and exceed our great expectations. The day was expertly planned so as to best avoid the crowds andJuan was extremely personable, knowledgable and patient with all of our many questions. We felt very comfortable and well taken care of throughout the day and the lunch we had was delicious. I heartily recommend this company based upon the experience we had.

My husband and I always plan our trips and never do tours. So this was a first for us and we could not have been happier. It was so simple to set up by email, all my requests were accommodated and everything went exactly as planned. We visited Tulum, climbed Coba, swam in a Cenote and ate a great lunch in a local restaurant. Hector was a knowledgeable and entertaining tour guide and Rodrigo a courteous, attentive driver. Both were a pleasure to hang out with for the day. Thank you for helping to make our trip to Mexico a great one!

This was a great excursion! It was exactly as described. Juan was a wonderful tour guide. The private tour and van were great. Getting to Tulum first thing in the morning meant that we beat the crowds and the heat. We had pictures with no one else in the background. The bike rental at Coba and climbing the pyramid were memorable experiences as well, and it was seamless and easy, with Juan as our guide! Lunch was at a real mom and pop restaurant near Coba, a place we’d never venture to on our own, but the food was good and the bathrooms clean. I highly recommend this excursion!
Corinne B –
This was an awesome tour, it was just my husband and I and our tour guide. We had Rodrico (our driver) and Hector (our guide). We left our hotel and went to Tulum, then went to Coba and then to a Mexican restaurant for lunch. Hector was super friendly and informative. Would definitely use them again.

We were a family of 7 with a 5 yr old. We wanted to tour ruins and swim cenotes and chose Absolute’s private tour after researching and reading reviews. It was worth it and we are usually do-it-yourselfers. We did the Tulum, Coba ruins tour with 2 cenotes added on. The whole day was fun, educational, and well managed. Our guide Manuel was very friendly, informative, and passionate about his job. Pascual was a great driver and very sweet. The guides at both Tulum and Coba were excellent, we learned so much. Glad to have worn tennis shoes for the climb up the Coba temple. After the ruins, we went to 2 cenotes near Coba that were caves, very cool water but refreshing, fascinating, and not crowded. The lunch was very good too and we appreciated the drinks provided throughout the day. It was a long 12-hour day since our hotel was north of Cancun but Absolute worked it all out and made the experience pleasurable and worry free. We never felt rushed, it was nice to have everything taken care of even some group pictures. Thank you Manuel, Pascual and the Absolute team!

I was really glad I found Absolute Adventure and didn’t just go on a cattle-call coach tour. Our day with Juan-José and Rodrigo was truly perfect from beginning to end. The extra expense was totally worth the personal pickup and service and we thoroughly enjoyed their attentive companionship. Tulum ruins were beautiful in the cool, early morning, and the ride through the massive grounds of Coba on two bike-taxis was a great way to experience the ruins in the jungle. We also liked the restaurant where we had lunch at the end of the tour very much. Juan was a wealth of information and kept us entertained throughout out 7.5-hour experience—he’s just a really warm, open, smart, interesting guy, and Rodrigo was a great driver. When we left them it felt like we were leaving really cool new friends.

We were looked after very well throughout the whole trip and would highly recommend absolute adventure especially when traveling with young children.

This is our first time in Cancun. We picked Absolute Adventure as it was highly rated and we were not disappointment!
Our guide, Juan, was amazing; knowledgeable, personable, humorous and just a lovely human being.
Both Tulum and Coba were breathtaking. The private tour is the way to go – avoid the crowds and don’t spend hours sitting in a bus while other tour companies drive all around Cancun picking up strangers. AA was prompt, our driver (Rodriguez) got us to where we wanted to go, safely. The personalized service ensures you get to see exactly what you want to, in your own time. I love the little touches like Juan taking photos of the day and sending them to us, as well as joining us for lunch and talking about what day-to-day life is like in Mexico (in addition to the history of the ruins, etc).
Thanks so much Juan. Make sure you come stay with us when you come and visit Australia!

Certainly recommend this company. We had a large group of us including two young children and a disabled adult. We booked a private tour of Coba and Tulum archaeological sites. Claire was very kind and very helpful on the phone regarding our booking – which we admittedly did with just a few day’s notice. They had snacks and drinks in the air conditioned vehicle. The price was very reasonable for what was on offer. Arturo was very knowledgeable and Ervin was very friendly. We went to a nice Mexican restaurant for lunch too.

I highly recommend this agency for visiting Tulum and Coba. The guide was able to explain us everything. These guys were easy reach and communication was easy. Top notch service !

You’ll have a dedicated guide and vehicle all to yourselves—no crowds, no waiting, just a smooth and personalized experience.
It typically lasts between 7 to 8 hours, depending on your hotel location and how much time you’d like to spend at each site.
Yes, round-trip transportation is included from Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum. We’ll pick you up right from your hotel, resort, or Airbnb for a stress-free start to your day.
Please note: we don’t offer pick up from Cancun Playa Mujeres hotels unless your group has 6 or more adults.
Yes, you’re welcome to choose your preferred pick-up time when booking.
That said, we recommend an early morning start to help you beat the crowds, skip the traffic, and enjoy cooler temperatures—it really makes a difference!
We take a shuttle from the parking lot to the main ruins entrance, so you won’t need to walk far to get to the site.
The guided visit lasts about 45 minutes and we go at a comfortable pace, with breaks if needed.
Just a heads-up—there aren’t many spots to sit. If you have any limitations with walking or taking steps, keep in mind that a few are required to get in and out of the site and to reach the cliff area.
No, unfortunately, we cannot. The beach located within the Tulum ruins has been closed since 2020 and remains inaccessible to visitors.
Additionally, this tour does not include any stops at the Tulum beach area, the hotel zone, or Tulum town center.
Not much! Coba is a large archaeological site, but we make it easy and comfortable to explore.
You can choose to ride a bike or take a pedicab (taxi tricycle) to visit the different structures. The terrain is flat, so bike riding is easy and suitable for all ages.
The guided visit usually lasts around 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Yes! Since December 8, 2025, climbing the main pyramid at Coba (Nohoch Mul) is allowed again.
After being closed for several years (2020–2025) for safety and preservation, access to the top has officially reopened. Guests can once more enjoy the iconic climb and the impressive jungle views from 42 meters high.
If you’d also like to experience another site where climbing is permitted, our private tours to the Ek Balam ruins still allow you to climb the Acropolis, offering breathtaking views over the surrounding rainforest.
Yes! You can enhance your Coba tour with a refreshing swim in a cenote. Just select the cenote option when booking your tour.
The cenote visit includes entrance fees and life vests, so everything is taken care of for a fun and safe experience.
Yes. Facilities include clean showers, restrooms, and changing areas.
Essentials include swimwear, a towel if cenote option and comfortable shoes.
You can safely leave your belongings in the van—our driver stays with it the entire time while you're out enjoying the activities.
Yes, we’re happy to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary needs or allergies.
After booking, you can let us know your needs by filling out the check-in form—just follow the link in your booking confirmation email.
You can cancel free of charge or reschedule (subject to availability) up to 24 hours before your tour.
We’re a small team and often fully booked 1–2 weeks in advance, so we recommend booking early to secure your spot.
Bonus: if you book at least 2 months in advance (60 days), you’ll qualify for our early bird discount*!
