If you’ve come to visit the Riviera Maya because you’re fascinated by the ancient Mayan cities, then this all-inclusive private Tulum Coba tour is perfect for your group. Not only will we take you and your fellow history lovers to explore the ancient city of Coba, which dates back to the Classic period of the Mayan history, but we’ll also visit the coastal ruins of Tulum, a former trading port that was at its peak during the civilization’s Postclassic period.
Our tour begins with a visit to Tulum, which is widely considered to be one of the most important sites left by the Mayans.
We plan our tours to avoid the crowds so that you can enjoy the experience as much as possible, and also provide you with a friendly, knowledgeable personal tour guide who will show you all of the archaeological highlights and share fascinating facts about the Mayans with you. In addition to viewing the beautiful temple of the descending god, you’ll be able to view the impressive main temple “El Castillo” and spend as much time as you like enjoying the breathtaking views of the nearby Caribbean Sea.
Once you’ve explored every single nook and cranny of Tulum, we’ll head to the ancient city of Coba, which is located a bit further inland. To start, we’ll go for an unforgettable ride through the jungle on the city’s famous network of ancient stone roadways.
Your tour guide will also take you to see Coba’s most interesting features, such as the large pyramid Nohoch Mul, which you’ll be welcome to climb if you want! Finally, we’ll end the tour by stopping for a delicious lunch of authentic Mexican food at a local restaurant, where you can relax and discuss all of the amazing things you’ve seen and done throughout the day.
Want to do more in your day trip?… Nothing better than swimming after the ruins!
To extend this adventure, we offer the option to add a cenote swim at the end of the tour. In that case we visit the 2 cenotes of Coba! One of them including cliff jumping! To book it just select the tour “Tulum Coba Cenote” just below the calendar.

our tour guide Juan was awesome! He knows so much about those old Mayan ruins, it was really cool learning about the history from him. We had such a great day. And our driver Omar, he totally looked out for us the whole time. Felt real safe with him driving. Big thanks to both of them for such an excellent day trip, we all had a blast!

Absolute Adventure is a must!!!
If you want a private guid they are the company to go with.
Leave per there suggestions at 7:00am from Playa Del Carmen, you won’t be sorry. They keep you one step ahead of the crowds at all times.
We did Tulum ruins, Coba ruins, added a cenote, and restaurant. I highly suggest all four, it makes for a perfect experience.
Juan, our guide, and Omar, the driver were exceptional. Juan was very knowledgeable of the Mayan Civilization, and had a lot to offer. This is not just a boring guide that just goes over history, but he knows how to keep things interesting. He is very well versed in English and Spanish.
The restaurant at the end of our adventure was best you will eat around here, a real authentic meal. I highly suggest this amazing company!!

We had such a good day. We saw everything we wanted to see. Our guide, Juan, was interesting, easy to listen to, and very engaging with our kids and our family member who has Down Syndrome. He gave us the perfect mix of activity and history. Lunch was excellent. We had so much fun. We even saw a monkey on our trip which was a bonus!
Arthur –
Alex’s deep knowledge of mayan sites and traditions made our trip truly enriching and enlightening. Highly recommended for history enthusiasts!

Incredible experience & memories!
Our family had an absolutely fantastic day with Arturo (our guide) & Carlos (our driver). We opted for a 7am start from The Fives in order to tour both Tulum & Coba before visiting/swimming at Choo-Ha & Tankach-ha cenotes & wrapping up with a tasty meal in Coba.
Arturo was both knowledgeable & friendly with our whole family… personally engaging all 3 of our kids (12yrs, 16yrs, 18yrs) all throughout the day.
Tulum was our first stop & stunning in the mid-morning sunlight. Coba was our second stop & we enjoyed biking btwn the various sites. We’re glad we opted to visit both ruins & definitely appreciated Arturo’s ability to help us understand the development of the Mayan civilization via compare/contrast ruins.
The cenotes were a great way to cool off & understand how local geology/hydrology intertwined with Mayan civilization. The stalagmites/stalactites in Choo-Ha were amazing & jumping/swimming/snorkeling in Tankach-ha was a great experience for our whole family! Arturo jumped from the 30-ft platform with my older teens & was very patient with my daughter & I as we worked up the courage to jump from the 15ft platform 😉
Can not thank Carlos enough for making us feel safe as he navigated the remote locations & congestion all day long!
Incredibly grateful for the wonderful memories we were able to make on this ruin/cenote tour with Arturo & Carlos!

Our tour guide for the day was Joshua, who demonstrated extensive knowledge of Mayan ruins through his commentary and guidance. Thank you Joshua!
Sebastian –
Many many thanks for the best Tulum and Coba tour
Excellent tour to Tulum and Coba for our 25 year anniversary and the best team with Arturo, our very knowledgeable guide, and Carlos our very attentive driver. Highly recommended and will be requesting them for Ek Balan next. Thank you again for a wonderful relaxing trip.

Fantastic Memorable Trip
Definitely recommend this private tour. We were picked up on time, traveled in an air conditioned mini bus with water and soda provided. We were the first to arrive at Tulum and was lovely to arrive early in the day to miss the crowds and cooler too. We then travelled to Coba and took a bike taxi and my son and guide had a bike. All included in the trip. Worth doing as it was a long walk in the jungle! We then were take to a lovely local restaurant where a delicious Mexican lunch was prepared. Again all included in the trip with non alcoholic drinks. They even cooked up chicken and chips for our fussy eater son. Would highly recommend Juan (JJ). He was lovely and looked after us from start to finish. Took some lovely group photos too. The driver was excellent too sorry couldn’t remember his name.

Alex and Carlos of Absolute Adventure Tours were an excellent team!
My husband and I booked a private tour to the Tulum and Coba ruins. Our guide, Alex, was extremely knowledgeable about the history of these Mayan ruins. He was personable and even took a few photos of us at the two main ruins. Carlos was an excellent driver, and kind as well.
We loved the private nature of the tour. Alex was able to spend more time with us at each part of the ruins, and we learned so much from his vast understanding of Mayan, Spanish, and Mexican cultures.
We highly recommend Absolute Adventure Tours. It was easy to book online. The crew is very responsive in communicating, and Alex and Carlos picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel. We had a perfectly beautiful day!
Julia –
Excellent tour with Juan! We did Tulum, Coba, and two cenotes and spent the right amount of time at each to enjoy the whole day. Juan is funny and friendly and knows a ton. Rodrigo was a great driver too!
Brad –
Great tour of Talum and Coba with Alex and Omar. Alex was very knowledgeable about the Mayan culture and history and taught us a lot more than we’ve gotten on other tours. He even taught us how to count in Mayan and had visual elements with him to better understand the writing. The private tour is more, but well worth the additional cost.
If you go to Coba take a bike. It was part of our tour, but if not, pay the fee. It is a really long walk otherwise. And if you’re hesitant at all about which option (bike or rickshaw, take the rickshaw).
Customer service and communication with Absolute Adventures was excellent. There are dozens of options for every tour in the Yucatán, but select carefully. I would recommend this company and this tour.
Vanessa –
We had an amazing tour of Tulum and Coba. Our tour guide was Alex and our driver was Carlos. They showed up at the agreed time and transport was great and air conditioned, cold drinks provided. Alex was very knowledgeable and has so much passion for what he does. The best tour guide I’ve ever had!
I highly recommend paying a bit more and using this company. Everything is organised and ran smoothly, I will definitely be using them again when I return to Mexico.
Ethan –
Alex was absolutely AMAZING! That dude knows so much about those Mayan ruins, it’s unbelievable. We had the BEST day ever exploring the ruins. Thanks AA, this was the perfect excursion and an experience we’ll never forget.
Christine B –
We had the best two days with JJ. Day 1 we toured the Tulum and Coba ruins. Day 2 we did the private tour of two cenotes. JJ was knowledgeable and personable. He timed our terms perfectly so that we had the cenotes to ourselves and virtually had the Tulum ruins to ourselves. Can’t recommend him enough.
Mary –
Great guide! Dulce had very deep knowledge of the ruins. She brought a book along with her that was helpful to point things out as sometimes it was hard to see exactly what she was describing on the ruin itself.
Leah –
A must cultural experience! Could not have asked for a better day. The Ruins were amazing, the van was comfortable. Omar our driver was always there with a cold beverage. Alex our tour guide was so informative, gave us great insight into this fabulous culture. Added the cenotes at the end which were refreshing after our day
Delores –
Absolutely amazing time!! Great driver Carlos and our Guide Dulce. So knowledgeable and tasty lunch.
Mariza –
Such an amazing experience! Couldn’t of asked for a better Tour Guide. Juan was absolutely phenomenal, and we felt so safe with Carlos behind the wheel.
During our Private tour we learned so much from Juan. He did a really good job painting the picture of what life was like back then.
This truly was an experience of a lifetime.
Priya –
We just completed our tour and this is the best way to go to the ruins. Our guide Juan was excellent! His knowledge is wide and he was able to provide us with many insights. He is very articulate and made our time there worthwhile, The added bonus was wonderful vegetarian food in the end.

You’ll have a dedicated guide and vehicle all to yourselves—no crowds, no waiting, just a smooth and personalized experience.
It typically lasts between 7 to 8 hours, depending on your hotel location and how much time you’d like to spend at each site.
Yes, round-trip transportation is included from Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum. We’ll pick you up right from your hotel, resort, or Airbnb for a stress-free start to your day.
Please note: we don’t offer pick up from Cancun Playa Mujeres hotels unless your group has 6 or more adults.
Yes, you’re welcome to choose your preferred pick-up time when booking.
That said, we recommend an early morning start to help you beat the crowds, skip the traffic, and enjoy cooler temperatures—it really makes a difference!
We take a shuttle from the parking lot to the main ruins entrance, so you won’t need to walk far to get to the site.
The guided visit lasts about 45 minutes and we go at a comfortable pace, with breaks if needed.
Just a heads-up—there aren’t many spots to sit. If you have any limitations with walking or taking steps, keep in mind that a few are required to get in and out of the site and to reach the cliff area.
No, unfortunately, we cannot. The beach located within the Tulum ruins has been closed since 2020 and remains inaccessible to visitors.
Additionally, this tour does not include any stops at the Tulum beach area, the hotel zone, or Tulum town center.
Not much! Coba is a large archaeological site, but we make it easy and comfortable to explore.
You can choose to ride a bike or take a pedicab (taxi tricycle) to visit the different structures. The terrain is flat, so bike riding is easy and suitable for all ages.
The guided visit usually lasts around 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Yes! Since December 8, 2025, climbing the main pyramid at Coba (Nohoch Mul) is allowed again.
After being closed for several years (2020–2025) for safety and preservation, access to the top has officially reopened. Guests can once more enjoy the iconic climb and the impressive jungle views from 42 meters high.
If you’d also like to experience another site where climbing is permitted, our private tours to the Ek Balam ruins still allow you to climb the Acropolis, offering breathtaking views over the surrounding rainforest.
Yes! You can enhance your Coba tour with a refreshing swim in a cenote. Just select the cenote option when booking your tour.
The cenote visit includes entrance fees and life vests, so everything is taken care of for a fun and safe experience.
Yes. Facilities include clean showers, restrooms, and changing areas.
Essentials include swimwear, a towel if cenote option and comfortable shoes.
You can safely leave your belongings in the van—our driver stays with it the entire time while you're out enjoying the activities.
Yes, we’re happy to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary needs or allergies.
After booking, you can let us know your needs by filling out the check-in form—just follow the link in your booking confirmation email.
You can cancel free of charge or reschedule (subject to availability) up to 24 hours before your tour.
We’re a small team and often fully booked 1–2 weeks in advance, so we recommend booking early to secure your spot.
Bonus: if you book at least 2 months in advance (60 days), you’ll qualify for our early bird discount*!
For full details, check out our booking policy page.
