Private Pet Cemetery Cenote Tour

Join us on the Private Pet cemetery Cenote Tour! This Cenote is one of the best cenotes in the area of Tulum. It is part of the Sac Actun (White Cave in mayan language) underground river, the biggest cave system of 215 miles. It is located far away  in the jungle, almost 4 miles from the highway.

  1. Why is the cenote called Pet Cemetery?

Sac Actun – Pet Cemetery cenote witnessed the evolution of the Yucatan for centuries. Today, there are still evidences of extinct animals in the cave. The cenote is opened for swimmers and snorkelers, but only scuba divers can see the bones of prehistoric animals located in this cave! Now you understand where its name comes from!

  2. Sac Actun Pet Cemetery Cenote Tour with Private Guide

Pet cemetery cenote is a must go for snorkelers. The cenote is so amazing, it is one of the most decorated cenote with many stalactites, stalagmites.  To visit the Pet Cemetery, it is mandatory to go with a guide. The cave is so big and gets very dark that you could get lost if you would go on your own.

  3. Learn More About The Private Tour

Pet cemetery cenote is located between Playa Del Playa and Tulum. The trip is about 45 minutes from Playa Del Carmen, or 30 minutes from Tulum Beach hotel zone. Therefore your private guide will pick you up early at your hotel to make sure you arrive before crowds. After a few miles in the jungle, your private van will reach the cenote area.

Once fully equipped, you will enter the cenote thanks to a suitable platform and stairs. Entrance and swimming are easy. In fact the cenote is quite shallow for swimming, adults and children can enjoy the experience. For sure, you will have an exhilarating and memorable experience.

Sac Atún Private Tour
Our group of nine was picked up on time at 9am at our Airbnb by our wonderful driver Rodrigo and our vivacious and knowledgeable guide Christina. The van was equipped with cervezas (at an additional charge available at time of booking), water, soda, juice, and napkins. We drove 40 minutes from the hotel district area in Tulum, 10 minutes on a well maintained dirt road. Life vests, snorkeling equipment and a flashlight were provided. The cenote water was cool. Most of our group was comfortable in a swimsuit. I elected to wear a wetsuit (also provided) and was very happy with my decision. My boyfriend was in a swimsuit and got a little cold at the end of the swim. The cave was full of the cutest fruit bats and we had plenty of opportunities to view them up close! It was one of the highlights of the tour for me. This tour was spectacular, unique, and stunningly beautiful! Christina is passionate about what she does and is a truly wonderful person who speaks English fluently. She is also an excellent photographer!!! We spent around two hours in the water and loved every minute! We only saw one other group the entire time we were there. After the tour we went to Juanita’s Restaurant for lunch, where food was included and drinks were available for purchase. If you have the time do not hesitate to book this! The highlight of our trip so far

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW

Your tour questions, answered.

Tour basics

Is the Sac Actun - Pet Cemetery Cenote tour private or shared?

This is a private tour, just for you and your group.

You’ll have a dedicated guide and vehicle all to yourselves—no crowds, no waiting, just a smooth and personalized experience.

Is the driver also the guide?

No. The driver and guide are two different professionals.

All our tours include a dedicated driver and a separate certified guide.

While some companies offer a guide-driver, we believe this is not safe. Having a driver focused solely on the road and a guide fully dedicated to our guests ensures a safer and higher-quality experience.

How long does a private Cenote tour take?

Please check the full itinerary in the “Itinerary” tab for more details.

It typically lasts between 3 to 5 hours, depending on your hotel location and how much time you’d like to spend at each site.

Pickup & transport

Is transportation included from my hotel or Airbnb?

Yes, round-trip transportation is included from Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum. We’ll pick you up right from your hotel, resort, or Airbnb for a stress-free start to your day.

Please note: we don’t offer pick up from Cancun Playa Mujeres hotels unless your group has 6 or more adults.

What vehicles do you use for your tours?

We offer a range of modern, air-conditioned vans to suit the size of your group and ensure a safe and comfortable journey.

Visit our fleet page for more details.

Can I change the pick up time?

Yes, you’re welcome to choose your preferred pick-up time when booking.

That said, we recommend an early morning start to help you beat the crowds, skip the traffic, and enjoy cooler temperatures—it really makes a difference!

Activities & facilities

Is swimming in cenotes safe?

Absolutely! Swimming in cenotes is very safe.

Cenotes are known for their calm, shallow, and crystal-clear waters, perfect for a relaxed swim.

For added safety, life vests are mandatory for all participants.

Plus, our professional guides are always by your side to make sure you feel comfortable and enjoy your experience at your own pace.

Everything is arranged to ensure you have a safe, stress-free, and unforgettable adventure.

Is snorkeling experience required for this tour?

No previous snorkeling experience is required, but basic swimming skills are necessary.

We provide mandatory life vests, and our guide ensures a safe and comfortable experience for everyone.

Are cenotes cold? Are they easy to access?

No, cenotes aren’t too cold—they stay at a refreshing 75–79°F (24–26°C) year-round, which is perfect for a swim.

Most cenotes have easy access with platforms and just a few steps to get in and out comfortably.

Do we have to wear wetsuits?

No, wetsuits are not mandatory. Only life vests are required for safety.

We do provide wetsuits if you would like extra comfort, especially if you find the water chilly. Wearing a wetsuit can also help you stay in the water longer without getting cold.

Are there showers or changing rooms at the cenotes?

Yes. Facilities include clean showers, restrooms, and changing areas.

Planning & booking

What should I bring for the tour? Where can I leave my belongings?

Check the "What to bring" tab on the tour page for the full packing list.

Be sure to bring the essentials: swimwear, a towel, and flip-flops/sandals.

You can safely leave your belongings in the van—our driver stays with it the entire time while you're out enjoying the activities.

Are vegetarian or special dietary meals available?

Yes, we’re happy to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary needs or allergies.

After booking, you can let us know your needs by filling out the check-in form—just follow the link in your booking confirmation email.

What is the cancellation policy?

Go ahead and plan with confidence—your booking is fully flexible!

You can cancel free of charge or reschedule (subject to availability) up to 24 hours before your tour.

We’re a small team and often fully booked 1–2 weeks in advance, so we recommend booking early to secure your spot.
