Private Pet Cemetery Cenote Tour

Join us on the Private Pet cemetery Cenote Tour! This Cenote is one of the best cenotes in the area of Tulum. It is part of the Sac Actun (White Cave in mayan language) underground river, the biggest cave system of 215 miles. It is located far away  in the jungle, almost 4 miles from the highway.

  1. Why is the cenote called Pet Cemetery?

Sac Actun – Pet Cemetery cenote witnessed the evolution of the Yucatan for centuries. Today, there are still evidences of extinct animals in the cave. The cenote is opened for swimmers and snorkelers, but only scuba divers can see the bones of prehistoric animals located in this cave! Now you understand where its name comes from!

  2. Sac Actun Pet Cemetery Cenote Tour with Private Guide

Pet cemetery cenote is a must go for snorkelers. The cenote is so amazing, it is one of the most decorated cenote with many stalactites, stalagmites.  To visit the Pet Cemetery, it is mandatory to go with a guide. The cave is so big and gets very dark that you could get lost if you would go on your own.

  3. Learn More About The Private Tour

Pet cemetery cenote is located between Playa Del Playa and Tulum. The trip is about 45 minutes from Playa Del Carmen, or 30 minutes from Tulum Beach hotel zone. Therefore your private guide will pick you up early at your hotel to make sure you arrive before crowds. After a few miles in the jungle, your private van will reach the cenote area.

Once fully equipped, you will enter the cenote thanks to a suitable platform and stairs. Entrance and swimming are easy. In fact the cenote is quite shallow for swimming, adults and children can enjoy the experience. For sure, you will have an exhilarating and memorable experience.

The trip ends by a lunch included in the tour price. We bring you to a traditional Mexican restaurant in the jungle. The Mayan owners will prepare you their local cuisine while you discuss your snorkeling adventure with your friends and family.

Had a blast exploring the Pet Cemetery Cenoté with Juan! He was such a fun guide and made this excursion so much fun! Super knowledgeable, funny, and gave us plenty of time for photo ops and exploring! Also, shout out to Enrique for being a great, nice, and safe driver during our trip! Would 100% book again!

Arturo was great! I’ve used this company before for a cenote tour and scheduled them for Sac Actun. Once again, the company was fantastic. We enjoyed the tour and highly recommend them!

Magical swimming experience We went for a tour in a Cenote with Arturo, our guide, who was a very charming and friendly person. The Pet Cemetery Cenote was just a magical experience, swimming in a maze like cave system, leading to spectacular “rooms” with draperies, stalactites and stalagmites. Arturo brought us to some surreal locations with no daylight at all. The organization was impeccable.

Amazing Day at Pet Cemetery Cave Snorkeling with Kids. We spent an amazing day with Arturo and Joshua as our guides through Pet Cemetery/Sac Actun. The cenote was far more beautiful and amazing than the online pictures show - the best of the four cenotes we visited while in Tulum. Arturo was wonderful with our boys (13 and 9), the youngest of which wasn't thrilled by the idea of cave snorkeling. But Arturo took time with him and made him feel so comfortable - our youngest ended up loving every minute of the tour. We were so happy Arturo and Joshua (who was training to be a guide and will also be amazing) joined us so we could learn more about them, the company, and the area.
We couldn't recommend this company or our tour guides any more. We did three tours with Absolute Adventure while in Tulum and loved all three - each was well worth the time and money. From Rodrigo our driver, to our tour guides, and all the way through to Claire and Cyrille the owners - this is the company to use! Stop your search!

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW

Your tour questions, answered.

Tour basics

Is the Sac Actun - Pet Cemetery Cenote tour private or shared?

This is a private tour, just for you and your group.

You’ll have a dedicated guide and vehicle all to yourselves—no crowds, no waiting, just a smooth and personalized experience.

Is the driver also the guide?

No. The driver and guide are two different professionals.

All our tours include a dedicated driver and a separate certified guide.

While some companies offer a guide-driver, we believe this is not safe. Having a driver focused solely on the road and a guide fully dedicated to our guests ensures a safer and higher-quality experience.

How long does a private Cenote tour take?

Please check the full itinerary in the “Itinerary” tab for more details.

It typically lasts between 3 to 5 hours, depending on your hotel location and how much time you’d like to spend at each site.

Pickup & transport

Is transportation included from my hotel or Airbnb?

Yes, round-trip transportation is included from Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum. We’ll pick you up right from your hotel, resort, or Airbnb for a stress-free start to your day.

Please note: we don’t offer pick up from Cancun Playa Mujeres hotels unless your group has 6 or more adults.

What vehicles do you use for your tours?

We offer a range of modern, air-conditioned vans to suit the size of your group and ensure a safe and comfortable journey.

Visit our fleet page for more details.

Can I change the pick up time?

Yes, you’re welcome to choose your preferred pick-up time when booking.

That said, we recommend an early morning start to help you beat the crowds, skip the traffic, and enjoy cooler temperatures—it really makes a difference!

Activities & facilities

Is swimming in cenotes safe?

Absolutely! Swimming in cenotes is very safe.

Cenotes are known for their calm, shallow, and crystal-clear waters, perfect for a relaxed swim.

For added safety, life vests are mandatory for all participants.

Plus, our professional guides are always by your side to make sure you feel comfortable and enjoy your experience at your own pace.

Everything is arranged to ensure you have a safe, stress-free, and unforgettable adventure.

Is snorkeling experience required for this tour?

No previous snorkeling experience is required, but basic swimming skills are necessary.

We provide mandatory life vests, and our guide ensures a safe and comfortable experience for everyone.

Are cenotes cold? Are they easy to access?

No, cenotes aren’t too cold—they stay at a refreshing 75–79°F (24–26°C) year-round, which is perfect for a swim.

Most cenotes have easy access with platforms and just a few steps to get in and out comfortably.

Do we have to wear wetsuits?

No, wetsuits are not mandatory. Only life vests are required for safety.

We do provide wetsuits if you would like extra comfort, especially if you find the water chilly. Wearing a wetsuit can also help you stay in the water longer without getting cold.

Are there showers or changing rooms at the cenotes?

Yes. Facilities include clean showers, restrooms, and changing areas.

Planning & booking

What should I bring for the tour? Where can I leave my belongings?

Check the "What to bring" tab on the tour page for the full packing list.

Be sure to bring the essentials: swimwear, a towel, and flip-flops/sandals.

You can safely leave your belongings in the van—our driver stays with it the entire time while you're out enjoying the activities.

Are vegetarian or special dietary meals available?

Yes, we’re happy to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary needs or allergies.

After booking, you can let us know your needs by filling out the check-in form—just follow the link in your booking confirmation email.

What is the cancellation policy?

Go ahead and plan with confidence—your booking is fully flexible!
