Tulum Ruins Cenote Private Tour

When visiting the Riviera Maya, two unforgettable experiences should be at the top of your list: discovering the region’s rich Mayan heritage and immersing yourself in the area's spectacular natural beauty.

With our private Tulum Ruins & Cenote Tour, you’ll enjoy the perfect balance of culture and adventure in just one day—without the stress of large groups or rigid schedules. This private experience is fully customized to your pace and preferences, offering exclusive access, expert guidance, and the flexibility to make the day your own.

Led by a certified guide, you’ll explore the Tulum Mayan ruins perched above the sea, then cool off in one or two handpicked cenotes. With private transportation, a flexible start time, and personal service, this journey offers a seamless and enriching escape.

Journey Through Mayan History and Jungle Cenotes

  1. 1. Discover the Tulum Mayan Ruins

Your experience begins with a guided visit to the ancient city of Tulum, one of the most iconic and scenic Mayan sites in Mexico. Once a thriving port and ceremonial center, Tulum was vital for trade along the Yucatán coast—where goods like jade, obsidian, and cacao once changed hands.

Set on a cliff overlooking the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, the site offers postcard-perfect views and a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the ancient Maya. Your guide will share the stories behind structures like the Temple of the Frescoes and El Castillo, along with cultural insights and fun facts tailored to your interests.

Thanks to early access and private transport, you’ll avoid the crowds and midday sun—perfect for uninterrupted photos and peaceful exploration.

    Highlights:

    • Guided exploration with a certified private guide
    • Stunning cliffside views over the Caribbean
    • Fascinating Mayan history and architecture
    • Early arrival to beat the crowds and heat

  2. 2. Swim and Snorkel in a Cenote (or Two!)

After exploring the ruins, it’s time to unwind and refresh in a stunning cenote—a naturally formed freshwater pool hidden within the jungle. Whether you choose one or opt for two, each cenote offers a different experience, from sunlit open-air lagoons to mystical underground caverns filled with stalactites.

You’ll be provided with all the gear needed to swim or snorkel in crystal-clear waters, with a professional guide by your side to ensure safety and help you discover hidden details within the rock formations.

You can select from guest favorites like Cenote Nicte-Ha, Taak Bi Ha, or Jaguar, depending on your comfort level and interests. Want something more adventurous? For an additional $10 USD per person, you can upgrade to world-renowned cenotes like Dos Ojos or Pet Cemetery.

    Why you’ll love it:

    • Enjoy the flexibility to book one or two cenotes
    • Great for all ages and skill levels—no current or waves
    • Snorkeling, cliff-jumping, or peaceful floating—your choice
    • Unique geological formations and sacred surroundings
    • Refreshing escape from the tropical heat

  3. 3. Savor a Jungle Lunch Experience

After your refreshing cenote swim, we’ll head to a peaceful jungle setting where a local restaurant awaits. You’ll relax under a thatched palapa and enjoy a homemade Mexican meal, with options available for vegetarians and guests with dietary restrictions.

This serene setting offers a chance to recharge and reflect on your day’s discoveries while enjoying traditional flavors and warm hospitality.

Highly recommend booking with and through Absolute Adventure! Booking via Absolute Adventure was easy and quick. They also cover all the park fees in their pricing. For a private tour the cost of $500 was very reasonable to visit the Telum Ruins park, visit two different cenotes, be able to snorkel in one of the cenotes, use the zip line and cliff jump at the other cenotes, have a private guide, reliable transportation who pick you up at your resort, and have a lunch in a beautiful jungle included, you couldn’t do better!! Leaving early in the morning also meant there wasn’t traffic.Ricardo, our driver, who picked us up on time at 6:30am with Arturo, our guide. Ricardo is an awesome driver, the ride was smooth. He even had cold water and soda in the back of the car for us. Im thankful Ricardo and Arturo picked us up early. We were able to beat the heat and were the first ones at the Telum Ruins park which allowed us to really enjoy all the park had to offer. Arturo went at the perfect pace and even brought water. We were out and about from 6:30-14:45ish which was the perfect length. We had forgotten our reusable water bottles but Arturo had us covered. ArturoArturo was fantastic! He had a rich knowledge of the Telum ruins as well as each of the Cenotes. We learned so much about the history of the city of Telum. The park is lush and beautiful. It was especially unique to see some of the light paints that had been preserved despite the hundreds of years passing. We met Bob the iguana too. Arturo took some breathtaking photos to share with our families. We visit cenote Jaguar which was exquisite! My partner and I really enjoyed the zip line and cliff jumping experience. Arturo was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna at Cenote Jaguar. We didn’t get to see a basilisk but we saw plenty of small fish which nibbled occasionally on us. Arturo captured us each coming down the zip line and took us around the mangroves. We also visited Cenote Taak bi Ha which was very different than Jaguar. Taak bi Ha had many stalagmites and stalactites. Arturo pointed out bats and showed us where the cave divers follow lines to guide them on their adventure. He also pointed out calcium deposits. At Taak bi Ha he provided us with snorkeling gear and flashlights. I didn’t provide photos for the cenotes because my camera skills couldn’t do these beautiful places justice. I’ve never seen anything like them before! Absolutely stunning and wild!!Finally we had lunch at this restaurant in the jungle that had lush greenery surrounding the area. I had the sample taco plate and it was delicious. If you like spicy use some of the green chili sauce it really adds to the dish. Also the jimica drink isn’t included but definitely worth springing for ($6 usd) per drink which is a hibiscus ice tea and super tasty.I can’t say thank you enough to Ricardo and Arturo! They really make this tour a highlight of our vacation!!

Incredible experience en el YucatanYou would be an idiot not to book this incredible and affordable experience!! From start to finish my business partner, and I got a full lesson on the history and beauty of Mexico. Our tour guide, Luis, really knew his stuff. We got to talking about his past and how he became a tour guide. Just to find out that we had the kitchen in common. I told him that this was a much better path and I am very envious of his job. Will be booking again next time I'm in the Yucatán, if I could give it more than five stars, I would!!Incredible experience en el Yucatan

My husband and I traveled to Playa del Carmen for the first time and booked an excursion to the Tulum ruins, a cenote and lunch. Our tour guide Eddy was beyond amazing! He was so knowledgeable and taught us so much about the area, the ruins, including a lot of info about Chichen Itza even though it wasn't on our tour. I learned a lot about the Mayan people and Aztecs. Unfortunately I underestimated my ability to handle the heat in the area but Eddy and our driver Rodrigo were amazing! I hung out in the shade so my husband could finish the tour, then Eddy got me out of the ruins so fast and back to Rodrigo. We had to cancel the cenote due to my heat exhaustion but they were so understanding and patient and got us back to our resort quickly. If ever in the area again I would absolutely try again and request Eddy as our tour guide!

Brilliant day. Went to the Tulum ruins and a beautiful cenote. Arturo’s knowledge, patience and enthusiasm made the trip memorable. We were amazingly looked after with no pressure to rush or purchase anything. I’d strongly recommend this tour. The cenote we chose had a zip line and huge jumps. But it was still incredibly peaceful.

Had Arturo as our guide and Hugo as our driver, and the whole experience was so much fun! I think being with family and having such a genuine and amazing guide is what makes these adventures even more memorable. Arturo was such a kind and welcoming person throughout the entire experience. We would 100% recommend him to anyone looking for a great guide!

We had a great time with our guide Arturo. Swimming in the cenote was amazing after the visit to Tulum. We were able to bring our whole group of 15 people and they allowed our 4 year old to go on the tour and swim.

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW

Your tour questions, answered.

Tour basics

Is the Tulum Ruins Cenote tour private or shared?

This is a private tour, just for you and your group.

You’ll have a dedicated guide and vehicle all to yourselves—no crowds, no waiting, just a smooth and personalized experience.

Is the driver also the guide?

No. The driver and guide are two different professionals.

All our tours include a dedicated driver and a separate certified guide.

While some companies offer a guide-driver, we believe this is not safe. Having a driver focused solely on the road and a guide fully dedicated to our guests ensures a safer and higher-quality experience.

How long does a private Tulum Ruins Cenote tour take?

It typically lasts between 5 to 6 hours, depending on your hotel location and how much time you’d like to spend at each site. Please check the full itinerary in the “Itinerary” tab for more details.

Pickup & transport

Is transportation included from my hotel or Airbnb?

Yes, round-trip transportation is included from Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum. We’ll pick you up right from your hotel, resort, or Airbnb for a stress-free start to your day.

Please note: we don’t offer pick up from Cancun Playa Mujeres hotels unless your group has 6 or more adults.

What vehicles do you use for your tours?

We offer a range of modern, air-conditioned vans to suit the size of your group and ensure a safe and comfortable journey.

Visit our fleet page for more details.

Can I change the pick up time?

Yes, you’re welcome to choose your preferred pick-up time when booking.

That said, we recommend an early morning start to help you beat the crowds, skip the traffic, and enjoy cooler temperatures—it really makes a difference!

Activities & facilities

How much walking is there at the Tulum ruins?

We take a shuttle from the parking lot to the main ruins entrance, so you won’t need to walk far to get to the site.

The guided visit lasts about 45 minutes and we go at a comfortable pace, with breaks if needed.

Just a heads-up—there aren’t many spots to sit. If you have any limitations with walking or taking steps, keep in mind that a few are required to get in and out of the site and to reach the cliff area.

Can we spend some time at Tulum beach during the tour?

No, unfortunately, we cannot. The beach located within the Tulum ruins has been closed since 2020 and remains inaccessible to visitors.

Additionally, this tour does not include any stops at the Tulum beach area, the hotel zone, or Tulum town center.

Is snorkeling experience required for this tour?

No previous snorkeling experience is required, but basic swimming skills are necessary.

We provide mandatory life vests, and our guide ensures a safe and comfortable experience for everyone.

Which cenote(s) do we visit on this tour?

You can view the list of cenotes available for this tour under the ‘Tour Description and General Info’ tab, where you'll also find links to full descriptions of each cenote.

We offer a variety of cenote types, including open-air, semi-open, and cave cenotes.

Unless you've already made your choice, you can decide which cenote to visit together with your tour guide on the day of your tour.

Are cenotes cold? Are they easy to access?

No, cenotes aren’t too cold—they stay at a refreshing 75–79°F (24–26°C) year-round, which is perfect for a swim.

Most cenotes have easy access with platforms and just a few steps to get in and out comfortably.

Are there showers or changing rooms at the cenotes?

Yes. Facilities include clean showers, restrooms, and changing areas.

Planning & booking

What should I bring for the tour? Where can I leave my belongings?

Check the "What to bring" tab on the tour page for the full packing list. Essentials include swimwear, a towel and comfortable shoes.

You can safely leave your belongings in the van—our driver stays with it the entire time while you're out enjoying the activities.

Are vegetarian or special dietary meals available?

Yes, we’re happy to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary needs or allergies.

After booking, you can let us know your needs by filling out the check-in form—just follow the link in your booking confirmation email.

What is the cancellation policy?

Go ahead and plan with confidence—your booking is fully flexible!

You can cancel free of charge or reschedule (subject to availability) up to 24 hours before your tour.

We’re a small team and often fully booked 1–2 weeks in advance, so we recommend booking early to secure your spot.
