Punta Laguna is still home to around 30 Mayan families who maintain their traditions and warmly welcome visitors. The purification ceremony symbolizes safe passage into the jungle and cenote, considered sacred as the gateway to the Mayan underworld, Xibalba—the “place of fear.”

Climbing is organized in small groups of 15 people to keep the stairs safe, and the maximum time allowed at the top is 15 minutes.
Please note that climbing the pyramid is done entirely at your own responsibility. This activity requires physical effort and may pose risks to your safety.
Do not climb if you are wearing shoes with slippery soles or high heels, if you suffer from dizziness or vertigo, have recently undergone surgery or experienced an injury, have heart conditions, back, neck or bone problems, are pregnant, have high blood pressure or aneurysms, or are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

You can choose to ride a bike or take a pedicab (taxi tricycle) to visit the different structures. The terrain is flat, so bike riding is easy and suitable for all ages.
The guided visit usually lasts around 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Yes! Since December 8, 2025, climbing the main pyramid at Coba (Nohoch Mul) is allowed again.
After being closed for several years (2020–2025) for safety and preservation, access to the top has officially reopened. Guests can once more enjoy the iconic climb and the impressive jungle views from 42 meters high.
If you’d also like to experience another site where climbing is permitted, our private tours to the Ek Balam ruins still allow you to climb the Acropolis, offering breathtaking views over the surrounding rainforest.
No, sightings are not guaranteed as the monkeys live in the wild.
However, we plan our visit in the early morning to maximize the chances of encountering spider monkeys in their natural habitat.
No, we only observe the monkeys from a distance.
They are wild animals, and there is no close interaction or petting involved—respecting their natural behavior is a key part of the experience.
Getting down into the cenote is relatively easy, as you're secured with a harness and gently lowered by the guides.
Climbing back up requires more physical effort—you’ll ascend using a rope ladder with support from a safety cord. While assistance is provided, you should be in good physical condition to safely complete the climb.
The maximum weight limit is 130 kg (approximately 285 lbs).
The minimum age is around 5–6 years old, depending on the child’s comfort and size.
Safety gear is provided, and guides assist with all equipment.
Yes, you can choose to skip the zipline or cenote rappel if you prefer.

The wife and I booked a private tour to the Punta Laguna monkey reserve and Coba Ruins with Abslote Adventures, and couldn’t have been happier with our Guide, or our experience.
Our guide, Juan, was fantastic and we really enjoyed the personal touch of a private tour, and would not hesitate to hire Absolute again in the future, and of course request Juan again.

That was the best tour I have ever taken on any trip! In one long day we observed lots of active spider monkeys at play in the wild, experienced the most scenic zip line in Mexico, got to see what a cenote is like (and test our strength climbing the rope ladder out), enjoyed a canoe race, saw a present day Mayan village (and helped support them with our shopping), saw interesting birds, and hiked a through some good habitat! Then we ate an excellent lunch and biked around Coba, climbing Ixmoja, one of the few pyramids visitors are still allowed to climb and one of the tallest on the Yucatan peninsula. Biking around the site was awesome on our rattletrap bikes and helped us with the heat which was intense that afternoon. I’m glad I climbed the pyramid although that was the toughest activity on the trip. Punta Laguna in the morning was very special as we were the only visitors and the nature and activities were wonderful! The eight of us from 10yr old to 70yr old all equally enjoyed the tour.
