So much to do and so little time. We get it—you want to experience more than just one site during your day in the Riviera Maya. That’s why we created the Punta Laguna Tour with a visit to the impressive Coba ruins. This private excursion combines nature, wildlife, culture, adventure, and ancient history—all in one incredible day.

  1. Punta Laguna Nature Reserve

    We start early to beat the heat, avoid the crowds, and increase your chances of spotting monkeys in their natural habitat. Once we arrive at the Punta Laguna Reserve, you'll get a true taste of the Mayan jungle. Some of the exciting activities included in this Punta Laguna tour are:

    • Hiking through the jungle in search of spider monkeys and howler monkeys. While sightings aren't guaranteed, we often see them thanks to our early arrival.
    • Canoeing across the peaceful lagoon—a relaxing and scenic way to explore the area.
    • Zip-lining over the lagoon for a bit of adrenaline and incredible views (optional).
    • Rappelling into a cenote—a thrilling (and optional) challenge for those in good physical condition.
    • Mayan purification ceremony—a spiritual ritual that adds a cultural depth to your jungle adventure.

    Punta Laguna is still home to around 30 Mayan families who maintain their traditions and warmly welcome visitors. The purification ceremony symbolizes safe passage into the jungle and cenote, considered sacred as the gateway to the Mayan underworld, Xibalba—the “place of fear.”

  2. Lunch in Coba

    After the jungle adventure, it's time to recharge with a delicious à la carte Mexican meal in the nearby village of Coba. Whether you're craving tacos, fajitas, panuchos, or other regional specialties, you’ll enjoy a freshly prepared lunch in a quiet, local setting.

  3. Explore the Ancient Coba Ruins

    Once lunch wraps up, it's time for an in-depth, private guided tour of the Coba ruins. This ancient Mayan city is known for its vast network of sacbeob (white roads), impressive stone structures hidden in the jungle, and towering pyramids. You’ll explore the site on foot or with the included bicycle rental. Taxi-tricycle rental is optional and costs extra. Climbing is available via the designated staircase, subject to current site access rules, and the site still offers a fascinating glimpse into the grandeur of the ancient Maya civilization.

Price excludes

  • Tricycle extra rental time or one tricycle per person. The standard rental time is usually sufficient to visit the entire archaeological site at a comfortable pace. Extra time may be required if there is a long line to climb the pyramid and costs approximately $10 USD per tricycle for one additional hour.
  • Drinks at the restaurant
  • Ruins: If you bring a GoPro, video camera, or phone with a selfie stick, a fee of 60 pesos (about USD 3) per device is charged at the entrance to each archaeological site and must be paid in pesos (INAH fee). Drones and camera/video tripods are prohibited.

What’s on the menu?
Selection of quesadillas, tacos, empanadas, salbutes, fajitas, grilled chicken … with vegetarian, fish, shrimp, chicken & meat options. With corn or flour tortillas. We can accommodate special diets and allergies, just let us know!

*Climbing the pyramid:
Climbing is organized in small groups of 15 people to keep the stairs safe, and the maximum time allowed at the top is 15 minutes.
Please note that climbing the pyramid is done entirely at your own responsibility. This activity requires physical effort and may pose risks to your safety.
Do not climb if you are wearing shoes with slippery soles or high heels, if you suffer from dizziness or vertigo, have recently undergone surgery or experienced an injury, have heart conditions, back, neck or bone problems, are pregnant, have high blood pressure or aneurysms, or are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Your safety is our priority—only you know your physical limits. If you believe your health may be at risk, please refrain from climbing to help prevent accidents.

The recommended early pick-up time helps you avoid traffic, crowds, and heat at the sites, but you can opt for a later pick-up when booking.

That was the best tour I have ever taken on any trip! In one long day we observed lots of active spider monkeys at play in the wild, experienced the most scenic zip line in Mexico, got to see what a cenote is like (and test our strength climbing the rope ladder out), enjoyed a canoe race, saw a present day Mayan village (and helped support them with our shopping), saw interesting birds, and hiked a through some good habitat! Then we ate an excellent lunch and biked around Coba, climbing Ixmoja, one of the few pyramids visitors are still allowed to climb and one of the tallest on the Yucatan peninsula. Biking around the site was awesome on our rattletrap bikes and helped us with the heat which was intense that afternoon. I'm glad I climbed the pyramid although that was the toughest activity on the trip. Punta Laguna in the morning was very special as we were the only visitors and the nature and activities were wonderful! The eight of us from 10yr old to 70yr old all equally enjoyed the tour.

Top notch private tour. Coba was still empty when we arrived. We were about to climb the temple and enjoy the view before crowds. We had so much fun in Punta Laguna looking for monkeys, zip lining and exploring a spooky cenote! Arturo took incredible pictures of our tour and they were emailed to us few days later!

Is the Coba Punta Laguna tour private or shared?

This is a private tour, just for you and your group.

You’ll have a dedicated guide and vehicle all to yourselves—no crowds, no waiting, just a smooth and personalized experience.

Is the driver also the guide?

No. The driver and guide are two different professionals.

All our tours include a dedicated driver and a separate certified guide. 

While some companies offer a guide-driver, we believe this is not safe. Having a driver focused solely on the road and a guide fully dedicated to our guests ensures a safer and higher-quality experience.

How long does a private Coba Punta Laguna tour take?

It typically lasts between 8 to 9 hours, depending on your hotel location and how much time you’d like to spend at each site. 

Pickup & transport

Is transportation included from my hotel or Airbnb?

Yes, round-trip transportation is included from Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum. We’ll pick you up right from your hotel, resort, or Airbnb for a stress-free start to your day.

Please note: we don’t offer pick up from Cancun Playa Mujeres hotels unless your group has 6 or more adults.

What vehicles do you use for your tours?

We offer a range of modern, air-conditioned vans to suit the size of your group and ensure a safe and comfortable journey.

Can I change the pick up time?

Yes, you’re welcome to choose your preferred pick-up time when booking.

That said, we recommend an early morning start to help you beat the crowds, skip the traffic, and enjoy cooler temperatures—it really makes a difference!

Activities & facilities

How much walking is involved at Coba?

Coba is a large archaeological site. Bicycle rental is included in this Absolute Adventure Mexico tour. Taxi-tricycle/pedicab rental is not included and costs extra if you choose it.

The terrain is flat. Your route and time at the ruins depend on your tour itinerary and the pace of your group.

Can we climb the pyramid in Coba?

Climbing Nohoch Mul resumed in December 2025 using the designated staircase. Access remains subject to the archaeological site’s current rules and conditions.

Climbing is optional. Follow the instructions at the site and the safety guidance provided for your tour.

Is it guaranteed to see monkeys at Punta Laguna?

No, sightings are not guaranteed as the monkeys live in the wild.

However, we plan our visit in the early morning to maximize the chances of encountering spider monkeys in their natural habitat.

Do we interact with the monkeys?

No, we only observe the monkeys from a distance.

They are wild animals, and there is no close interaction or petting involved—respecting their natural behavior is a key part of the experience.

Is cenote rappelling easy?

Getting down into the cenote is relatively easy, as you're secured with a harness and gently lowered by the guides.

Climbing back up requires more physical effort—you’ll ascend using a rope ladder with support from a safety cord. While assistance is provided, you should be in good physical condition to safely complete the climb.

What is the maximum weight or age limit for the zipline?

The maximum weight limit is 130 kg (approximately 285 lbs).

The minimum age is around 5–6 years old, depending on the child’s comfort and size.

Safety gear is provided, and guides assist with all equipment.

Can we skip the zipline or cenote rappel?

Yes, you can choose to skip the zipline or cenote rappel if you prefer.

However, the cost of the tour remains the same, as these activities are included in a single entrance fee to the park.

What should I bring for the tour? Where can I leave my belongings?

You should bring swimwear and a towel for the cenote, comfortable closed-toe shoes for walking or hiking, and biodegradable mosquito repellent for the jungle areas.
Water shoes can also be helpful, especially for the cenote rappelling activity.

You can safely leave your belongings in the van—our driver stays with it the entire time while you're out enjoying the activities.

Are vegetarian or special dietary meals available?

Yes, we’re happy to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary needs or allergies.

After booking, you can let us know your needs by filling out the check-in form—just follow the link in your booking confirmation email.

What is the cancellation policy?

Go ahead and plan with confidence—your booking is fully flexible!

You can cancel free of charge or reschedule (subject to availability) up to 24 hours before your tour.

We’re a small team and often fully booked 1–2 weeks in advance, so we recommend booking early to secure your spot.
