Best Kept Secret for a tour for Mayan Ruins!
We did a private tour today with our AMAZING GUIDE Alex and our wonderful driver Enrique! They picked us up from our resort in Tulum. Alex was extremely knowledgeable and gave us an in depth history of the Mayan ruins in Coba as we wrote driving. As a history teacher and history nut, he answered all of our questions. We took bicycles all over Coba and had time to shop. This is a must do when you come to Tulum! The private tour is absolutely worth it. My husband and I agree this was the best tour we’ve done in Mexico!

Great experiences! We had great experiences with Absolute Adventure. My 80-year-old mother, 18 year--old daughter, and I did two tours with them: private tour of two cenotes and the Coba express tour. Alex was our tour guide for both. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about Mayan culture and history and the natural surroundings. He was patient and encouraging with my mother. Highly recommend!

Such a great experience! Coba feels more like a hidden archaeological site in the middle of the jungle. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly, and we appreciated how flexible the schedule was.

Jade · Mar 2024

We were amazed by the ancient roads and pyramid structures deep in the jungle. Even though climbing is no longer allowed, being there in person was still breathtaking. The private guide made the visit feel personal and informative. Loved every moment.

Daniela · Feb 2024

We wanted to see Mayan ruins without committing to a long day, and this was exactly what we needed. Friendly staff, punctual pick-up, and a very insightful guided visit of Coba. We learned so much and still had time to enjoy the beach afterward.

Abby · Jul 2023

Our guide was very professional and nice. We had a great time!

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW

Your tour questions, answered.

Tour basics

Is the Coba Ruins tour private or shared?

This is a private tour, just for you and your group.

You’ll have a dedicated guide and vehicle all to yourselves—no crowds, no waiting, just a smooth and personalized experience.

Is the driver also the guide?

No. The driver and guide are two different professionals.

All our tours include a dedicated driver and a separate certified guide.

While some companies offer a guide-driver, we believe this is not safe. Having a driver focused solely on the road and a guide fully dedicated to our guests ensures a safer and higher-quality experience.

How long does a private Coba Ruins tour take?

Please check the full itinerary in the “Itinerary” tab for more details.

It typically lasts between 5 to 6 hours, depending on your hotel location and how much time you’d like to spend at each site.

Pickup & transport

Is transportation included from my hotel or Airbnb?

Yes, round-trip transportation is included from Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum. We’ll pick you up right from your hotel, resort, or Airbnb for a stress-free start to your day.

Please note: we don’t offer pick up from Cancun Playa Mujeres hotels unless your group has 6 or more adults.

What vehicles do you use for your tours?

We offer a range of modern, air-conditioned vans to suit the size of your group and ensure a safe and comfortable journey.

Visit our fleet page for more details.

Can I change the pick up time?

Yes, you’re welcome to choose your preferred pick-up time when booking.

That said, we recommend an early morning start to help you beat the crowds, skip the traffic, and enjoy cooler temperatures—it really makes a difference!

Activities & facilities

How much walking is involved at Coba?

Coba is a large archaeological site. Bicycle rental is included in this Absolute Adventure Mexico tour. Taxi-tricycle/pedicab rental is not included and costs extra if you choose it.

The terrain is flat. Your route and time at the ruins depend on your tour itinerary and the pace of your group.

Can we climb the pyramid in Coba?

Climbing Nohoch Mul resumed in December 2025 using the designated staircase. Access remains subject to the archaeological site’s current rules and conditions.

Climbing is optional. Follow the instructions at the site and the safety guidance provided for your tour.

Can we add a cenote to this tour?

Yes! If you'd like to include a refreshing swim in a cenote, check out our Coba Cenote Tour

Planning & booking

What should I bring for the tour? Where can I leave my belongings?

Check the "What to bring" tab on the tour page for the full packing list.

You should comfortable closed-toe shoes for walking or biking.
You can safely leave your belongings in the van—our driver stays with it the entire time while you're out enjoying the activities.

What is the cancellation policy?

Go ahead and plan with confidence—your booking is fully flexible!

You can cancel free of charge or reschedule (subject to availability) up to 24 hours before your tour.

We’re a small team and often fully booked 1–2 weeks in advance, so we recommend booking early to secure your spot.

Bonus: if you book at least 2 months in advance (60 days), you’ll qualify for our early bird discount*!
