Great tour and well worth the price! What an experience! Well worth the cost. Arriving at Chichen Itza when it opened, before the heat of the day and seeing old town Chichen Itza was fabulous! Our guide Eddy was very knowledgeable and guided us through Chichen Itza with ease. It was amazing to see old town Chichen Itza which most people do not take the time to visit. Our driver, Omar, was very professional and safe! It was a pleasant ride. Thank you again to Eddy for taking the time to answer all our questions and supplying us with so much information on the tour! Our 10 year old grandson remembered so much of what you said! He was telling his parents about the tour when we arrived home and still relating more about the tour five days later! Thank you again EddyGreat tour and well worth the price!

  2. Stéphanie Marquis

The private tour was really worth it since we get to both sites before rush hours, this enhances the experience so much! Luis made sure to inform us of fascinating historical facts but also took care of us like his own friends thinking about every detail so we don’t miss out and take the best pictures! Lovely tour, I highly recommend to anyone that is wants to avoid the masses and enjoy some exclusive time in magical place. Special thanks to Enrique our driver as well.

We booked the private express Chichen Itza tour, and it was the highlight of our trip! Our tour guide, Eddy, was knowledgeable, friendly, and made the trip unforgettable.

The car ride was comfortable, and it was so fun chatting with Eddy! When we got to Chichen Itza, we learned so much and experiencing everything in person was incredible.

I definitely recommend Absolute Adventure Mexico and would use them again for any tours or excursions around Cancun/Riviera Maya/Tulum!

They were on time for pickup, flexible to restroom breaks when needed and extremely friendly. Felt extremely safe while traveling and very comfortable. They also provided us with iced drinks before and after our private tour. I can’t recommend Eddie enough!!Best tour ever!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The absolute BEST way to experience Chichén Itzá—worth every penny!

Before booking our excursion, I spent hours researching tour companies. I even asked both ChatGPT and Claude AI for recommendations, and Absolute Adventure consistently came up as one of the top choices. After experiencing it ourselves, I can confidently say they exceeded every expectation. They weren’t just the best option on paper—they were the highlight of our entire trip.

We traveled as a family of four (2 adults and our kids, ages 7 and 11), and choosing a private tour instead of a crowded bus tour was the best decision we made. Being picked up directly from our hotel at 6:00 AM allowed us to arrive at Chichén Itzá before the large tour buses, making the experience so much more enjoyable. Having the flexibility of a private tour made traveling with kids effortless, and we were able to move at our own pace all day.

From the moment we booked, Absolute Adventure’s customer service was outstanding. Every email was answered within minutes, communication was clear, and the entire process was incredibly easy.

Our guide, Josh (Joshua), was truly exceptional. I’ve been on many guided tours over the years, and he is easily one of the best guides I’ve ever had. His knowledge of Mayan history was incredible, but what really made him stand out was his passion. You could genuinely feel how much he loves sharing the history of Chichén Itzá, and that enthusiasm made every moment engaging for both the adults and our kids.

He didn’t simply explain the ruins—he brought them to life. He used an iPad with historical images and a book filled with colorful reconstructions to show us what the structures originally looked like. As we walked through the site, he pointed out intricate carvings, hidden details, and fascinating pieces of history that we would have completely overlooked on our own. Every question we asked was answered thoughtfully, and he kept our children interested from beginning to end.

Josh also happens to be an incredible photographer! He knew exactly where to stand for the best angles, helped us avoid crowds in our pictures, and took some of our favorite family photos from our entire vacation.

A huge thank you also goes to our driver, Enrique (“Kike”). He was punctual, professional, incredibly kind, and made us feel completely safe throughout the day. The private van was spotless, modern, comfortable, and stocked with cold drinks and snacks, making the drive relaxing from start to finish.

The rest of the day was just as amazing. We visited a beautiful cenote before it became crowded, enjoyed a delicious included lunch, and explored Valladolid. Josh recommended some fantastic local shops and snacks, gave us time to explore on our own, and made sure we got the most out of every stop.

What really separates Absolute Adventure from other tour companies is the personal experience. There was no rushing to keep up with a large group, no waiting for dozens of people, and no feeling like just another customer. The entire day felt thoughtfully planned around our family.

We paid around $1,200 (including tips), and after experiencing everything that was included—private transportation, an incredible guide, an outstanding driver, lunch, snacks, drinks, flexibility, and personalized service—I can honestly say it was one of the best values of our entire vacation.

If you’re wondering whether a private tour is worth it, the answer is absolutely yes. If you’re wondering which company to book with, stop searching and book Absolute Adventure. Our family will remember this day forever, and we cannot thank Josh, Kike, and the entire team enough for creating such an unforgettable experience.

    10/10. Five stars isn’t enough.

We booked both the 2 Cenotes Tour and the Chichén Itzá Express Tour, and on both occasions our guide, Joshua, was outstanding. We never felt rushed and appreciated the time he took to share information, offer local food recommendations and suggest other activities for our trip.

The overall service was excellent from start to finish. Transportation was very comfortable, with a clean van and cold drinks provided throughout the tours. Our drivers, Omar and Kike, were professional and drove safely and smoothly, which made the journeys relaxing and enjoyable.

This private tour made going to Chichén Itza easy, if you are planning on going definitely use these guys. Overall great service and great tour guide. Keep up the great work! Also Josh and Rodri you are the best!

  16. Goat

Absolute adventures is a gateway into the history of Mexico. I went on a tour with Josh to Chichen itza this march. This trip was one I will never forget. Without Josh I don’t think I would have made it to the temples! He helped me navigate the park and he was very informed on the history. He could answer every question you could think of. You wouldn’t have gotten the same experience if you just read the signs, Josh allowed me to learn so much more. I would 100% recommend Josh for a tour guide, always there cracking jokes and have a good time. Thank you Josh!!

  17. Holley

Eduardo was an excellent guide and very tolerant of my many questions. Omar was a very safe and considerate driver. Looking back on our brief stay, our private tour to Chichen itza was a true highlight. Thank you for your knowledge and kindness.

  18. Esther

My sister booked us a private tour to Chichen Itsa and on another day to Tulum and a cave cenote ( pet cemetery) plus lunch. Our drive to chichen was about 2.5 hours each way and it was a very comfortable drive there and back with plenty of water and drinks for us. Our driver was very professional and helpful and our guide, Eduardo, was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the ruins and the Mayan people. We were all very happy with our tour in all ways!
For the Tulum ruins and cenote, it was much closer and we loved this guide too, Dulce, she was also very knowledgeable and experienced while being very friendly too. It was a bit intimidating getting in the cold dark water but we felt safe with our guide who was experienced. They provided wet suits and life jackets and Dulce waited for my daughter who was being pokey looking at the amazing surroundings. We felt safe on both tours and the prices were so reasonable for private tours!! I highly recommended this company they have a great team!!

  19. Esther S

Wonderful private tour of Chichen Itsa.As Chichen Itsa was 2.5 to 3 hours from our resort, we wanted to do a faster private tour that just included the ruins. It was so easy to book and we loved our driver ( forget name) and our guide, Eduardo. Both were professional, safe, and friendly. As three women alone that was very important to us. Eduardo was very knowledgeable and experienced with relating the history of the temples and the Mayan people. The trip there and back was very comfortable in a van with a cooler stocked with water and other drinks. We actually did another private tour with this company to a cenote and Tulum I’ll review separately. We found the prices for a private tour to be very reasonable! Don’t forget to tip 15 to 20% though!! They can’t work all of the year due to the rainy and hurricane season. Thanks for the great tour!!

  20. Barry H

Quick and easy private tour.Quick and easy. Pickup was on time at our resort. Toll fees for toll road and tickets to the site were all covered in package price streamlining the entry. Driver was professional and vehicle well maintained and clean. Guide was thorough, informative and to the point. If you are looking for a quick, easy, no stress to the point tour of Chichen Itza this is the way to go.

Eduardo was an excellent guide and very tolerant of my many questions. Omar was a very safe and considerate driver. Looking back on our brief stay, our private tour to Chichen itza was a true highlight. Thank you for your knowledge and kindness.

FAQ Chichen Itza Private Tour

Is the Chichen Itza tour private or shared?
This is a private tour, just for you and your group.

You’ll have a dedicated guide and vehicle all to yourselves—no crowds, no waiting, just a smooth and personalized experience.

Is the driver also the guide?

No. The driver and guide are two different professionals.

All our tours include a dedicated driver and a separate certified guide.

While some companies offer a guide-driver, we believe this is not safe. Having a driver focused solely on the road and a guide fully dedicated to our guests ensures a safer and higher-quality experience.

How long does a private Chichen Itza tour take?
Please check the full itinerary in the “Itinerary” tab for more details.

It typically lasts between 9 to 10 hours, depending on your hotel location and how much time you’d like to spend at each site.

Is transportation included from my hotel or Airbnb?

Yes, round-trip transportation is included from Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum. We’ll pick you up right from your hotel, resort, or Airbnb for a stress-free start to your day.

Please note: we don’t offer pick up from Cancun Playa Mujeres hotels unless your group has 6 or more adults.

What vehicles do you use for your tours?

We offer a range of modern, air-conditioned vans to suit the size of your group and ensure a safe and comfortable journey.

Visit our fleet page for more details.

Can I change the pick up time?

Yes, you’re welcome to choose your preferred pick-up time when booking.

That said, we recommend an early morning start to help you beat the crowds, skip the traffic, and enjoy cooler temperatures—it really makes a difference!

How long is the drive to Chichen Itza?

The drive to Chichen Itza from the coast takes approximately 2 hours and 30 to 40 minutes.

Our professional drivers always respect speed limits to ensure a safe and comfortable journey for everyone.

Can we make bathroom stops on the way?

Yes, absolutely! There are 1 or 2 bathroom stops available along the way at gas stations and convenience stores, where you can take a break whenever needed.

Is breakfast included, or can we stop on the way to grab something?
Breakfast is not included in the tour. However, we’re happy to make a quick stop at a convenience store on the way so you can purchase something to eat or drink before starting the activities. You are also welcome to bring your own snacks if you prefer.
How much walking is there at the Chichen Itza ruins?

During the guided visit at Chichen Itza, we typically spend about 2 to 2 hours and 15 minutes exploring the site.

We go at your own pace, taking breaks whenever needed to ensure your comfort.

If you wish, we can also adjust the visit to be shorter or longer depending on your preferences.

Our goal is to make the experience as enjoyable and flexible as possible for you.

What should I bring for the tour? Where can I leave my belongings?
Check the "What to bring" tab on the tour page for the full packing list.

We recommend wearing comfortable shoes for exploring the ruins—tennis shoes are ideal. Light, breathable clothing is also suggested due to the warm weather.

You can safely leave your belongings in the van—our driver stays with it the entire time while you're out enjoying the activities.

Is there a restaurant at Chichen Itza, or can we grab something to eat nearby?

After your guided tour of Chichen Itza, you'll have free time to explore more or you own or to shop souvenirs. You can use this time to go to the restaurant on-site.

Alternatively, if you prefer, we can arrange a brief stop at a convenience store on the way back to your accommodation.

Please note that the express tour takes a direct route back and does not pass through towns where sit-down restaurants are located.

Can we stop at a restaurant on the way back?

This tour doesn’t include stops at a restaurant.

However, if you're interested in adding lunch, you can check out our Chichen Itza Valladolid private tour, which includes a meal at a local restaurant in town.

Is the Chichen Itza express tour suitable for families with young children?

Yes, the express tour is suitable for families with young children.

However, we recommend an early morning pick-up to avoid the midday heat.

The average real-feel temperature at Chichen Itza can range from 75°F (24°C) in the cooler months to 95°F (35°C) or higher in the summer.

By starting early, you can enjoy the ruins in more comfortable temperatures, typically around 75-85°F (24-29°C).

This way, you and your children can explore without worrying about the intense midday sun.

What is the cancellation policy?
Go ahead and plan with confidence—your booking is fully flexible!
