Not only will we take you and your fellow history lovers to explore the ancient city of Coba, which dates back to the Classic period of the Mayan history, but we’ll also visit the coastal ruins of Tulum, a former trading port that was at its peak during the civilization’s Postclassic period.
Our tour begins with a visit to Tulum, which is widely considered to be one of the most important sites left by the Mayans.
We plan our tours to avoid the crowds so that you can enjoy the experience as much as possible, and also provide you with a friendly, knowledgeable personal tour guide who will show you all of the archaeological highlights and share fascinating facts about the Mayans with you. In addition to viewing the beautiful temple of the descending god, you’ll be able to view the impressive main temple “El Castillo” and spend as much time as you like enjoying the breathtaking views of the nearby Caribbean Sea.
Once you’ve explored every single nook and cranny of Tulum, we’ll head to the ancient city of Coba, which is located a bit further inland. To start, we’ll go for an unforgettable ride through the jungle on the city’s famous network of ancient stone roadways.
Your tour guide will also take you to see Coba’s most interesting features, such as the large pyramid Nohoch Mul, which you’ll be welcome to climb if you want! Finally, we’ll end the tour by stopping for a delicious lunch of authentic Mexican food at a local restaurant, where you can relax and discuss all of the amazing things you’ve seen and done throughout the day.

To extend this adventure, we offer the option to add a cenote swim at the end of the tour. In that case we visit the 2 cenotes of Coba! One of them including cliff jumping! To book it just select the tour “Tulum Coba Cenote” just below the calendar.

What to bring
- Resusable water bottle: at Tulum Ruins, it is forbidden to enter the ruins with plastic water bottles. If you wish to bring water for the visit, please bring your own reusable water bottle. We’ll have water in the van for you to fill or refill.

* It is forbidden to apply sunblock and repellent before swimming or snorkeling activities to prevent water pollution in the cenotes and preserve the reefs, even if they are biodegradable products. Compliance with this rule is essential for the protection of the environment.
You can bring personal belongings you require during the tour (phone, camera, extra set of clothes…). While you are visiting you can leave the things you don’t need in the van. Our driver will always be in the van, so keeping your things safe!

Our family of four had a wonderful Alejandro, our guide, was extremely friendly, helpful, and informative. Enrique, our driver, got us safely and quickly to all five stops and back to our resort. Claire was very responsive and helpful, promptly answering several emails prior to our tour.
All admissions, bike rental, and a delicious lunch were covered in the cost of the tour. We all had a very fun time.

Picked up from our accommodation early so we could get to Tulum before the crowds, on the way Alex the guide talked about the Mayan history and explained everything very clearly using pictures on his tablet. We were the first to arrive at Tulum so had the place to ourselves for awhile. As we walked around Alex explained each ruin. Was the same experience at Coba, but since Coba is a bigger site we rode around on bikes to get to each point a lot quicker. Both sites are different though as Tulum is coastal and has palm tress everywhere and Coba is in the middle of the jungle with trees growing over some of the ruins, so it was good to do both. We opted to do the cenote swims after visiting Coba to cool off which was also amazing. Barely anyone was at each one so practically had them to ourselves. I dropped my phone in one and it died on me so Alex and Enrique the driver offered to go to the shops while we were having lunch to get me a bag of rice. Thankfully it recovered and is working again! Thank you Alex and Enrique. In the van they also supplied water and sodas for the day.

Private Tulum and Coba tour with lunch
For anyone who isn’t wanting to visit a cenote, this tour is a great alternative.
I highly recommend going early as there were only a few people around at the same time. We got great photos, unobstructed views of the ruins and the ocean and our guide Juan was able to spend more time explaining the history of Tulum and Coba without having to rush because of crowds.
As soon as we left though, we passed by multiple bus loads of people just arriving so I’m so glad we came when we did.
The lunch we had after Coba was delicious, fresh and so much flavour. A lot of food for one order that you could probably share with someone (unless you’re a big eater).
Our driver Enrique was friendly and professional and our guide Juan (aka Banana) was the best. He kept us engaged with his humour, all the interesting facts about the sites and his friendly and outgoing personality.

Amazing Private Tour of Tulum and Cobá
This was an excellent private tour. We spent the day touring the Mayan ruins of Tulum and Cobá. Amazing tour and what was more cool is that it was a private tour with just the two of us, our tour guide and our driver. We learned a lot and since Alex, our tour guide was aware that we had studied history and watched several National Geographic programs on the Maya Civilization, therefore he gave us a more detailed and technical discussion of the varios sites, including connections between the maya and nahuatl languages. Phenomenal private tour – worth every penny! We did a private tour of the Tulum and Coba archeological sites with Arturo. He was a superb guide, very knowledgeable and passionate about Maya civilizations. What a great way to celebrate my 50th birthday with my 5 closest friends. Our guide, Arturo, was fantastic. A wealth of information and quite entertaining. We met early to beat the crowds and we were always one step ahead of the big groups. A nice leisurely tour of Tulum before heading to Coba where we rode bikes through the jungle, before swimming in a cenote. As one of my friends said, we did a triathlon. As a group of active women, this was just our speed. I appreciate that Arturo was willing change things when I told him I wanted to find a sign with the name Nicte. Suddenly there was the perfect cenote we had to visit and so he adjusted the planned cenotes on our tour so I could take a picture with Nicte. We did Tulum ruins, Coba ruins, added a cenote, and restaurant. I highly suggest all four, it makes for a perfect experience.
Juan, our guide, and Omar, the driver were exceptional. Juan was very knowledgeable of the Mayan Civilization, and had a lot to offer. This is not just a boring guide that just goes over history, but he knows how to keep things interesting. He is very well versed in English and Spanish.
The restaurant at the end of our adventure was best you will eat around here, a real authentic meal. I highly suggest this amazing company!!

Incredible experience & memories!
Our family had an absolutely fantastic day with Arturo (our guide) & Carlos (our driver). We opted for a 7am start from The Fives in order to tour both Tulum & Coba before visiting/swimming at Choo-Ha & Tankach-ha cenotes & wrapping up with a tasty meal in Coba.
Arturo was both knowledgeable & friendly with our whole family… personally engaging all 3 of our kids (12yrs, 16yrs, 18yrs) all throughout the day.
Tulum was our first stop & stunning in the mid-morning sunlight. Coba was our second stop & we enjoyed biking btwn the various sites. We’re glad we opted to visit both ruins & definitely appreciated Arturo’s ability to help us understand the development of the Mayan civilization via compare/contrast ruins.
The cenotes were a great way to cool off & understand how local geology/hydrology intertwined with Mayan civilization. The stalagmites/stalactites in Choo-Ha were amazing & jumping/swimming/snorkeling in Tankach-ha was a great experience for our whole family! Arturo jumped from the 30-ft platform with my older teens & was very patient with my daughter & I as we worked up the courage to jump from the 15ft platform 😉
Can not thank Carlos enough for making us feel safe as he navigated the remote locations & congestion all day long!

Fantastic Memorable Trip
Definitely recommend this private tour. We were picked up on time, traveled in an air conditioned mini bus with water and soda provided. We were the first to arrive at Tulum and was lovely to arrive early in the day to miss the crowds and cooler too. We then travelled to Coba and took a bike taxi and my son and guide had a bike. All included in the trip. Worth doing as it was a long walk in the jungle! We then were take to a lovely local restaurant where a delicious Mexican lunch was prepared. Again all included in the trip with non alcoholic drinks. They even cooked up chicken and chips for our fussy eater son. Would highly recommend Juan (JJ). He was lovely and looked after us from start to finish. Took some lovely group photos too. The driver was excellent too sorry couldn’t remember his name.

Great tour of Talum and Coba with Alex and Omar. Alex was very knowledgeable about the Mayan culture and history and taught us a lot more than we’ve gotten on other tours. He even taught us how to count in Mayan and had visual elements with him to better understand the writing. The private tour is more, but well worth the additional cost.
If you go to Coba take a bike. It was part of our tour, but if not, pay the fee. It is a really long walk otherwise. And if you’re hesitant at all about which option (bike or rickshaw, take the rickshaw).
Customer service and communication with Absolute Adventures was excellent. There are dozens of options for every tour in the Yucatán, but select carefully. I would recommend this company and this tour.

Tulum and Coba are very different Mayan sites, one on the shore and one in the jungle. Our 11- hour tour from Cancun was about 11 hours and included a nice lunch at Coba. Hector, our private tour guide was very informative and patient with our questions.

Continued to Cobá to climb to the top of the temple and see the spectacular views. This was a great excursion! It was exactly as described. Juan was a wonderful tour guide. The private tour and van were great. Getting to Tulum first thing in the morning meant that we beat the crowds and the heat. We had pictures with no one else in the background. The bike rental at Coba and climbing the pyramid were memorable experiences as well, and it was seamless and easy, with Juan as our guide! Lunch was at a real mom and pop restaurant near Coba, a place we’d never venture to on our own, but the food was good and the bathrooms clean. I highly recommend this excursion!

It was worth it and we are usually do-it-yourselfers. We did the Tulum, Coba ruins tour with 2 cenotes added on. The whole day was fun, educational, and well managed. Our guide Manuel was very friendly, informative, and passionate about his job. Pascual was a great driver and very sweet. The guides at both Tulum and Coba were excellent, we learned so much. Glad to have worn tennis shoes for the climb up the Coba temple. After the ruins, we went to 2 cenotes near Coba that were caves, very cool water but refreshing, fascinating, and not crowded. Tulum ruins were beautiful in the cool, early morning, and the ride through the massive grounds of Coba on two bike-taxis was a great way to experience the ruins in the jungle. We also liked the restaurant where we had lunch at the end of the tour very much. Juan was a wealth of information and kept us entertained throughout out 7.5-hour experience—he’s just a really warm, open, smart, interesting guy, and Rodrigo was a great driver. When we left them it felt like we were leaving really cool new friends.

Excellent guide and driver,Arturo was very knowledgeable as well as the guides at Tulum and coba. We really enjoyed the trip and loved learning about the Mayan culture. We were looked after very well throughout the whole trip and would highly recommend absolute adventure especially when traveling with young children.

Both Tulum and Coba were breathtaking. The private tour is the way to go – avoid the crowds and don’t spend hours sitting in a bus while other tour companies drive all around Cancun picking up strangers. AA was prompt, our driver (Rodriguez) got us to where we wanted to go, safely. The personalized service ensures you get to see exactly what you want to, in your own time. I love the little touches like Juan taking photos of the day and sending them to us, as well as joining us for lunch and talking about what day-to-day life is like in Mexico (in addition to the history of the ruins, etc).

Certainly recommend this company. We had a large group of us including two young children and a disabled adult. We booked a private tour of Coba and Tulum archaeological sites. Claire was very kind and very helpful on the phone regarding our booking – which we admittedly did with just a few day’s notice. They had snacks and drinks in the air conditioned vehicle. The price was very reasonable for what was on offer. Arturo was very knowledgeable and Ervin was very friendly. We went to a nice Mexican restaurant for lunch too.

We were looking for a specific private tour of Tulum and Coba ruins and most companies offer an either/or option with snorkeling or a cenote swim. Juan and Ervin where our guide and driver respectively, and they were great. Juan was very knowledgeable, personable, and went above and beyond to ensure we had a safe, fulfilling, and enjoyable experience. We were picked up at our hotel on time and headed out to Tulum first, arriving before the park opened and before the massive crowds. Juan got our entry tickets and arranged for our guide, selecting a guide that complimented my wife’s interest in botany, then accompanied us through the ruins, adding much to our experience with his knowledge. We then headed to Coba where again Juan took care of everything including bicycle rental and a guide of the archaeological site. Then off to lunch at a nearby local restaurant with great food. We cannot recommend Juan and Absolute Adventure highly enough.

Arturo was our guide for the Tulum and Coba tour. He answered all our questions and told us about the Mexican culture. We were not sure about booking a private tour but we loved it. We had a driver, van and guide for ourselves, and we were never rushed! Arturo took pictures of us and they were emailed to us the next day. Thanks for this “Absolute” Adventure!

If you are interested in archeological sites, they are great placse to visit. Tour guide was excellent and very well informed about this historic site. learned a great deal about the Mayans, glad we went.
