Playa del Carmen Diving
Let us help you discover what makes Playa del Carmen Diving a great choice !
In Playa del Carmen, you can take your pick of diving options: bull shark diving (November through January), deep diving, shallow diving, and/or wreck diving…
Playa del Carmen Diving: Shallow and Deep Dives
Did you know ? The second-largest barrier reef on Planet Earth is right here! Heading south along the Gulf of Mexico from North America, the Mesoamerican Reef first appears just off Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula and extends all the way to Costa Rica.
And because the island of Cozumel stands between the Peninsula and the open sea, it acts as a moderating influence on tide levels and turbidity so there are more nutrients in the waters around Playa del Carmen. The result: lots more fish to see! And see them you will, from 60 to 100 feet away—or as near as your nose!
Ideal shallow spots for Discover Scuba Diving, as well as deep spots for certified divers with fun dives from 30 to 90ft!
One wreck to explore—an entire undersea universe to enjoy. About a dozen years ago Mama Vina, a 90-foot long ferry was consigned to a watery grave. Sunny side up. On purpose. To delight divers. She’s resting in 90 feet of water with strong to very currents surrounding her. There she sits, beckoning you.
Her mast is adorned with an immense school of barracudas and horse-eyed jacks. Again, she’s sunny side up. So you can dive in and investigate her middle and top levels. The middle level has two rooms. The wheelhouse on the top level awaits its new captain. That would be you. In SCUBA gear!
Bull shark diving
Bull sharks are denizens of the shallow, warm waters of every ocean. Fast and nimble, they aren’t picky about what to eat: they’ll dine on turtles, fish, and other sharks.
Because the waters where we dive with bull sharks are crystal-clear, it is possible to dive safely with them. There has never been a bull shark attack on a human diver or snorkeler around the Yucatan Peninsula.
Diving with bull sharks is an enormous thrill and education. Those of us who dive with bull sharks frequently respect and admire them. It is a privilege denied many. If you have the interest and the empathy to join us, you’ll never stop talking about it. The experience will change your life and your perspective of sharks forever.
Get in the swim of things. Dive with the big boys. Bring an underwater camera. Your home movies, showing you diving with bull sharks, will be motion pictures that no one who knows you will ever get tired of watching or talking about!
Playa del Carmen diving with bull sharks season is limited (November to January). Don’t miss out.
