Bacalar Tour and Catamaran Sailboat on the Seven Colors Lagoon

Our private guided Bacalar tour offers the chance to visit one of the most stunning and beautiful places in Quintana Roo. Elected as “Pueblo Magico” which means “Magical Town”, Bacalar is about 3 hours south of Playa del Carmen. The highlight of the trip is sailing on the Lagoon of Seven Colors. The surreal turquoise waters bubble up through spring-fed cenotes and underground rivers. The white limestone bottom creates a mesmerising sight, creating multicolored waters which give the lagoon its legendary name.

Our Bacalar Tour starts with an early morning pick-up of your party from your hotel. There’s a scheduled stop at Felipe Carillo Puerto. It’s a great opportunity to dine as a local at large shared tables in the heart of the bustling market. Enjoy a typical Mexican breakfast of empanadas, tacos and fruit juice.

Bacalar Town and Boat Tour

Our unique Bacalar Tour includes a peaceful eco-friendly trip on a catamaran, powered only by gentle wind and rustling sails. Peer down into the clear blue water and spot rare cauliflower-like stromatolites. Said to be one of the oldest forms of life on the planet, stromatolites only exist in a few places in the world. Take a dip in waters once inhabited by pirates and experience a mud bath or beautifying facial with smooth lagoon clay. Darker waters mark the location of a 90-meter (295-foot) deep cenote. Wind-permitting, you will enjoy a relaxing sail around the lagoon, sampling local fruits and admiring the beautiful homes, hotels and lakeside gardens.

La Playita Lakefront Restaurant

The cruise ends at the pier where you can change and enjoy a delicious meal at one of the best restaurants in Bacalar: La Playita. They serve empanadas, tacos and other latin fusion specialties – order whatever you fancy!

Bacalar Town and Fort

Walk off those calories as you stroll with your guide around the Spanish town which dates back to 1545. It was sacked by pirates in the 17th century and the defensive fortress was completed in 1729. It now houses an interesting museum about Bacalar town and Fuerte de San Felipe.     In the event of unsuitable weather, we will offer the tour in a lancha motor boat, reschedule, or cancel the trip with a full refund.
  • Pick up: This tour is strictly available only for hotels located in Playa del Carmen, Tulum, or the area between these towns.

5:30 from Playa del Carmen or 5:45 from Akumal/Puerto Aventuras or 6:15 from Tulum
Pick up from your hotel and drive to Felipe Carrillo Puerto
08:00am – 08:40am: Breakfast at the local marketplace in Felipe Carrillo Puerto
08:40am – 10:00am: Transportation to Bacalar
10:00am – 01:00pm: Private catamaran sailing tour
01:00pm – 02:15pm: Lunch at a restaurant with lagoon view
02:15pm – 03:30pm: Visit to the fort and free time to explore and shop around Bacalar town center
03.30pm – 07:00pm: Transportation back to your hotel

What to bring

There will be one small waterproof bag for you to keep your camera/phone dry on board. Kindly restrict what you bring on-board to a minimum.
While you are on the boat you can leave the things you don’t need in the van. Our driver will always be in the van, so keeping your things safe!

  • Wear light clothing on the boat as you will get wet! There is no dry space on the boat.
  • Swim suit and beach towel (please wear it during the morning and change after the boat tour)
